Hello loyal readers and other folks. Well another race on the Nationwide and Cup Series schedules is over with and out of the way. The trucks were still off this past weekend. I’ll sure be glad when they’re back to racin’. Yessirree I will be. That’s excitin’ racin’ right there and with more of the older veterans competin’ in that series it just goes to show those older drivers still have what it takes to be excitin’ and competitive if ya know what I mean.
Anyway back to the 2 series that did race this past weekend. Course the Nationwide Series did their usual but not always Saturday racin’. It looked like a right pretty day out there in California, yes it did. Duck and I were wishin’ we could have been there watchin’ those drivers doin’ what they do best and soakin’ up that sun but it just couldn’t happen no how, no way. Anyway Wide Smilin’ grabbed the pole followed by that Allgaier boy, G/B Brad, WYG and Curly Sadler. For those who want to know as best as we could tell there were only 5 regular Cup drivers racin’ that day and Baby Face Bayne started 9th, Rowdy Boy qualfied 15th in his own car but missed the driver’s meetin’ and had to head to the rear of the field and That Girl started 21st. So with Duck on medication for his recent disturbin’ behavior and our snacks and choice of drinks on the crates we cheered and quacked as the green flag flew for an evenin’ race.
Duck seems to have straightened up somewhat since his doctor visit thank our good and gracious LORD. I don’t think I could have taken much more out of that boy, course that’s neither nor there, I’m just sayin’. Rowdy Boy was on a mission and while the top 3 were gettin’ a bit of distance on the rest of the field Rowdy boy had moved up from dead last to 18th by lap 8. Oh my good and gracious LORD Duck and I were amazed for sure and 9 laps later that boy was up to the 14th spot! He was like greased lightenin’ in a bottle, let me tell ya that one somethin’ right now. Oh we were glad to see that boy doin’ so well in his own car for certain. Now I know I am rough on that boy, but it’s because of his behavior not his drivin’ ability and like him or not we all know that boy can drive the wheels off his car! Come on now, y’all know that’s true!
Anyway by lap 18 Wide Smilin’ was startin’ to lap the rear of the field. Sometime not long after that G/B Brad took the lead and aimed to hang on to it. Some time shortly after lap 60 That Girl headed to the garage with somethin’ or another broken. Don’t recall her makin’ it back out so sad for her I say. Anyway no lap by lap as you know. There were 4 cautions durin’ 150 laps. The race actuallu passed right quick like. Duck and I were pullin’ for Curly Sadler but Wide Smilin’ pulled off the win in the end. Good for him I say. I haven’t actually kept count but accordin’ to the reports Joey’s win makes it the 8th straight Nationwide Fontana win for Coach Joe so a double good for him and Coach Joe I say! Ricky, Jr came in 2nd followed by G/B Brad, Scott and WYG. For those who want to know Rowdy finished 8th and Curly Sadler finished 9th. By the way that boy still holds the points lead by 18 points and anythin’ else you want to know about the race you can look up.
So Sunday we settled in with popcorn and drinks on the crates early. We knew that rain was headin’ for that Fontana track and we were anxious to watch every bit of what was gonna be run. I don’t know where they got those Three Stooges wanna be’s and I’m not tryin’ to be mean spirited here but Mike Joy, Larry Mac and Darrell Waltrip (and Duck and I trurly like these guys) are more like the originals than those 3 bozos but they gave the command to start the races and Duck and I cheered and quacked as we always do when the green flag waves.
Denny Boy was on the pole followed by Rowdy Boy, Cutie Mark Martin, Biffle Man, and Kutie Kahne. For those who want to know Flippin’ Carl started 12th, Smoke started 9th, JR started 14th and Not Same Champ Jimmie started 10th. The rest you can look up.
They started the race a few minutes early and Duck and I were on our feet from the get go. Almost immediately Rowdy got the lead and had no intentions of givin’ it up at all By lap 35 pit stops started. Afterwards Rowdy was back in the lead and pullin’ away from the rest of the field. Except for pitstops he kept it too until lap 85 when Smoke just plain took it away from that boy. Duck was excited but was still hopin’ Flippin’ Carl was gonna do somethin’ spectacular like and he was movin’ up real nice, but… To make this here report short, there was only one caution flag on lap 123 after rain was reported on lap 120 so we pretty much figured the end was near. On lap 128 Not Same Champ Jimmie’s car blew an engine or somethin’ major cause smoke was pourin’ out of it and all over the track. Low and behold on lap 129 the field got the red flag. Everybody was wantin’ it to go green again but the rain got heavier and heavier and that radar thingie showed it wasn’t gonna let up so Not same Champ Jimmie finished 10th to Smoke’s win. Good for Smoke I say. Rowdy Boy finished where he started, JR finished 3rd, Happy Man finished 4th and Flippin’ Carl finished 5th. I looked over at Duck who at first looked sad when his idol didn’t win but I shook his pill bottle at him and he perked up real quick like. Good for Duck I say, too! About time that duck gets some smarts. I’m just sayin’…
Anyway for those who want to know Bif finished 6th, Flyin’ Ryan finished 7th, JuanToya finished 17th, Jeffie finished 25th one lap down (sad for him I say) and the rest you can look up.
Now for some other stuff. I am told but have not read it anywhere that not Same Champ Jimmie along with crew chief Knaus and the car chief got to keep their points and their money. Good for all of them I say. And you know what “they” always say…”Them that gots, gets”.
And I read a little while ago that Jeremy Mayfield lost his deal against the powers the be, so here’s another old sayin’…”Them that don’t gots, don’t gets” or somethin’ like that…sad for him I say. I always kinda liked that boy but I hated those “hey Jeremy” commercials…just wanted to smack that girlie on her behind if ya know what I mean. Course that’s neither here nor there, I’m just sayin’..
The trucks are back next week with the Cup guys at Martinsville and the Nationwide Series is off for 2 weeks.
So there ya have it ’til next time. Email, comment or don’t. Makes no nevermind to me cause I’m still a very busy (and tired) woman.
