This past weekend the Nationwide Series had the weekend off. Well most of the drivers did anyway. The team members were still hard at work while pert near all the drivers did one different somethin’ or another. Sure not like the days gone by when most of the drivers were the owners too and did most of the car work themselves. Oh there are a very few still out there strugglin’ and tryin’ all they can to survive but ya never hear much about ’em and they aren’t in the winner’s circles so they don’t get much attention but they’re out there just tryin’ to make a livin’ and hopin’ some company will take a chance on ’em and invest. Sad state of affairs right there if ya know what I mean. Course those young guns are excitin’ and all but those veterans have more than years on those younguns. Just seems like no one with money has any vision or taste for adventure, if ya will, to show the racin’ world what some amazin’ differences could be instead of what is, over and over again. But enough of my ramblin’s so let’s get to the task at hand.
The trucks raced Saturday. Tim George, Jr, landed the pole followed by Leffler, Lofton, White and WYG. For those who want to know Buescher started 6th, G/B Brad started 12th, Handsome Hornaday started 16th, Ward’s boy Jeb started 25th and the rest you can look up.
This is one of those weird shaped tracks if ya want Duck’s and my opinion. Course the racin’ is excitin’ so who cares what it’s shaped like. Right? So Duck and I had our snacks on the crates, were ready to go racin’ and quacked and cheered as the green flag flew for 167 laps of fun and on the 2nd lap poor Ward’s boy Jeb ended his race day in a wreck. So very sad for that boy I say! And trouble found 6 other drivers by lap 54. The field just shortened itself for one reason or another. Only 13 trucks finished on the lead lap. Duck and I were sure excited watchin’ Handsome Hornaday though. He went go down a lap a couple of times and then gained it back again. That’s why we like watchin’ him. He’s just one of those dig in deep and never give up drivers. Know what I mean?
Anyway Buescher won his first truck race there. Good for him I say! This was the 2nd race in a row for Turner Motorsports too so good for them, as well. Duck and I knew this boy was gonna be good and he is for certain. We love it when we can say we told ya so and we do every chance we get. Yessirree good for that whole racin’ outfit right there. Anyway TP came in 2nd followed by G/B Brad, Piquet, Jr and Geoffrey’s younger brother Todd. For those who want to know Handsome Hornaday finished 6th, WYG finished 9th and good for them I say. Oh and Rock’em Sock’em finished 24th.
Next day the Cup drivers hit the same track. Dinger won the pole followed by Happy Man, Wide Smilin’,
Denny Boy and Cutie Mark Martin. For those who want to know Not same Champ started 15th, JR started 7th, Jeffie started 20th and Kutie Kahne started 9th which meant JR was the highest startin’ RH driver. GOOD for him I say to that. Yessirree. Rowdy Boy started 25th, Big Brother Busch started 17th and the rest you can look up. So with popcorn and lemonade on the crates we cheered and quacked as the green flag flew.
No lap by lap here neither. Amazin’ly there were only 3 caution laps durin’ this race but plenty of action! I guess it was a big shock to a lot of folks that the pole sitter finished 32nd 10 laps down. Stranger stuff has happened though. Course some say it was a bit of a borin’ race but to my way of thinkin’ no one was hurt and there were some unexpecteds so all in all it was a good race. Denny Boy won the race so good for him I say! This is his 2nd win this season so that boy must be wearin’ some lucky somethin’ somewhere. Anyway good for him I say! Truex, Jr finished 2nd, Not Same Champ finished 3rd, Robo Matt finished 4th and Biff came home 5th. For those who want to know JR finished where he started in 7th so good for all of ’em I say! And Jeffie blew an engine and finished 21st 3 laps down with 3 laps to go, Flippin’ Carl finished 9th after startin’in the 21st position so a special good for him and Duck I say, the Dinger finished 32nd 10 laps down shockinly and cutie Mark finished 33rd, 12 laps down after losin’ an engine and the rest you can look up. Apply a good or sad for whoever where it is appropriate.
Now for some other stuff. It is right obvious that JR is doin’ better this year. Yessirree he is and good for him I say. But it was no surprise when he said he and LeTarte have more work to do to get in Victory Lane. Obviously that is right but he has more confidence in this year’s performance so Duck and I are still believin’ his time in Victory Lane is comin’ soon!
Rowdy Boy is havin’ a bit of a tough year. He sits 13th in the Cup standin’s and his own race team is experiencin’ a tough time in the Nationwide series too. Looka here, it happens folks. No one sits on the throne forever except our good and gracios LORD. Know what I mean? Perhaps while Rowdy Boy is sittin’ that somewhere else he is thinkin’ about that and some other important issues like attitude. That’s probably a good way to spend that time. Just my way of thinkin’ which is neither here nor there, I’m just sayin’.
The Biff remains the points leader in Cup. Truex Jr jumped 2 spots to 2nd, Robo fell 1 spot to 3rd, JR fell 1 spot to 4th and Denny Boy jumped one spot to 5th. The rest you can look up.
And finally there is a whole lotta hoopla about whether Kansas should be repaved or not. Now looka here, those track surfaces get old, worn out and need help. Heck fire if I could get repaved I would. Yessirree I would. I’m not bein’ vain like ya understand, but, well, better is better and better, usually but not always, goes farther. Know what I mean? Eeenough said.
So that’s it for this week, folks. Email. comment or don’t. I don’t care cause I still am and always will be a very busy woman. Granny Grump, and Duck, over and out.
