RICHMOND, Va. – Kyle Larson will be a busy driver this upcoming weekend at Chicagoland (Ill.) Speedway.
In addition to his normal duties behind the wheel of the No. 42 Target Chevrolet for Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates, the 2014 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Rookie of the Year rookie will also compete in Friday night’s NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race and Saturday afternoon’s XFINITY Series race at the 1.5-mile oval.
Making his 10th start of the 2015 XFINITY Series season for HScott Motorsports with Chip Ganassi, the 22-year-old will make his first truck start of the year in the No. 00 Chevrolet Silverado for JR Motorsports.
Larson finished 12th on Saturday night in the 26th and final race of the regular season in the Cup, missing the cutoff for the Chase for the Sprint Cup and likely opening the opportunity to compete in the triple-header weekend.
Team owner Dale Earnhardt Jr. made the announcement through Twitter, shortly after finishing fifth in the Federated Auto Parts 400 at Richmond (Va.) International Raceway.
JR Motorsports expanded its Mooresville, North Carolina-operation earlier this year to include a limited truck schedule for NASCAR Next member Cole Custer who is expected to race full-time in 2016.
The team has utilized a number of Cup drivers including Alex Bowman, Kevin Harvick and Kasey Kahne to offer feedback and pinpoint weaknesses in their inaugural season of competition.
Entering Friday night’s Lucas Oil 225, JR Motorsports has two wins this season with Kahne at Charlotte (N.C.) Motor Speedway and Custer at Gateway (Ill.) Motorsports Park respectively.
Larson, a native of Elk Grove, California has just nine NCWTS starts to his credit with one win at Rockingham (N.C.) Speedway, four top-fives and six top-10 runs.
Earnhardt did not say who would sponsor the entry in their 11th race of the season.
