Ross Kenseth, son of NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver Matt Kenseth will test at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway on Tuesday, October 20 for Hattori Racing Enterprises (HRE), sources confirmed to CATCHFENCE.com.
If all goes well, the 22-year-old driver will make his NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) debut in the Kroger 200 at the historic 0.526-mile track on Oct. 31.
Earlier this season, Kenseth made his NASCAR XFINITY Series debut in June at Chicagoland Speedway for Joe Gibbs Racing. After overcoming a practice spin, he qualified second and finished sixth in the No. 20 Dollar General Toyota Camry.
Kenseth also ran a limited ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards schedule for Ken Schrader Racing where he scored his first career victory at Michigan International Speedway in June after qualifying second in just his third series start. He also finished fourth at Kentucky Speedway last month.
In four career ARCA starts, his lowest finish was sixth in his debut at Madison (Wisc.) International Raceway in 2013 also driving for Schrader.
While hoping to follow in the footsteps of his famous father, Kenseth has also competed in some of the top Late Models shows in the country, including the Snowball Derby, Slinger Nationals, Winchester 400 and the All-American 400 in Nashville, which he won in 2012.
Hattori Racing Enterprises owned by former Japanese racer Shigeaki Hattori hopes to make their first truck series start of the season on Halloween. In September, the team attempted to qualify for the Lucas 225 at Chicagoland Speedway with driver Ross Chastain, but missed the field after inclement weather set the field by points.
In addition to trucks, Hattori, who raced 10 NCWTS races in 2005 has fielded race cars for young promising drivers in ARCA and the XFINITY Series. Chastain scored a top-10 for HRE in the XFINITY Series at Kentucky Speedway last September. HRE has just one truck start in 2013 with Brett Moffitt at Michigan International Speedway, where they finished 17th.
Hattori will field the No. 18 Toyota Tundra for Kenseth from its Mooresville, North Carolina-based shop.
