MOORESVILLE, North Carolina – NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) driver Ray Black Jr. will make his NASCAR XFINITY Series (NXS) debut Saturday afternoon at Texas Motor Speedway in the O’Reilly Auto Parts Challenge, CATCHFENCE.com has learned.
An official announcement is expected as early as Tuesday.
The Palm Coast, Florida native will drive the No. 15 Chevrolet Camaro in a collaborative effort between Rick Ware Racing (RWR) and SS Green Light Racing, the same organization he competes with full-time on the truck tour.
The 24-year-old ranks 11th in the Truck Series standings with three races remaining. Black’s best finish this season came in the season-opening race at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway where he finished fifth in just his eighth series start.
Black has two career starts at Texas’s 1.5-mile oval, delivering two top-20 finishes with a best run of 16th in June aboard his No. 07 ScubaLife / NASE Worldwide Chevrolet Silverado for owner Bobby Dotter.
Sources indicate that Black is close to finalizing his plans for next season, which is expected to include more truck races, with a hefty dose of XFINITY Series races packed in as well.
Jason Miller, Black’s crew chief in trucks will assist in calling the shots as crew chief in Saturday’s race.
