HOMESTEAD, Fla. – A week after picking up his 10th career NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) win at Phoenix (Ariz.) International Raceway, Timothy Peters won’t have Marcus Richmond as crew chief for tonight’s season finale at Homestead-Miami (Fla.) Motor Speedway.
Earlier this week, Richmond and Red Horse Racing parted ways leaving the door open for a new crew chief to lead the veteran Peters in 2016.
A spokesperson for RHR said that Richmond left the Mooresville, North Carolina organization to pursue other opportunities.
The move seems shocking as Peters and Richmond could be considered the hottest driver / crew chief combination on the tour since Chicagoland Speedway in September. During the span of seven races since then, the No. 17 team has achieved two wins, five top-fives, seven top-six efforts and jumped from seventh to fifth in the driver’s championship standings.
Leaving Phoenix last weekend, the team carried an average finish of third during this two and a half month span.
CATCHFENCE.com has learned that Shane Huffman, who recently departed the role as crew chief at GMS Racing has taken a new job with a Toyota truck team and could be expected to be announced as Richmond’s replacement in the coming weeks.
The spokesperson added the team didn’t have anything to announce for 2016 at this time.
Veteran Red Horse Racing crew member Butch Hylton will lead the No. 17 Red Horse Racing Toyota Tundra in Friday night’s Ford EcoBoost 200.
