BRISTOL, Tenn. – Defending ARCA Racing Series championship team Cunningham Motorsports announced Monday in conjunction with NASCAR team Roush Fenway Racing that they will jointly field a five-race schedule for RFR development driver Ty Majeski beginning at Pocono (Pa.) Raceway next month.
Majeski, the three-time consecutive Midwest ARCA champion will also make his NASCAR XFINITY Series debut for Roush Fenway Racing in a third car at Iowa Speedway in June.
In addition to Pocono Raceway, Majeski will drive the No. 99 Ford Fusion at Michigan International Speedway (June), Chicagoland Speedway (Sept.), Kentucky Speedway (Sept) and the season-finale at Kansas Speedway (Oct.).
“I’m very excited for the opportunity to run some races with Cunningham this year,” said Majeski. “They have a successful history in .developing drivers and I’m proud to be a part of it. It will be great for me to run some of the intermediate tracks to prepare the best I can for my XFINITY starts this year and I can’t thank Briggs Cunningham, Kerry Scherer, Paul Andrews, Chad Bryant and all the guys at Cunningham enough for this opportunity.”
The 22-year-old made his ARCA debut last season at Madison (Wisc.) International Speedway driving for Roulo Bros. Racing, a former Roush Fenway Racing partner. He finished fourth after starting seventh. Additional starts at Lucas Oil Raceway Park, Chicagoland Speedway and Kentucky Speedway yielded an additional top-10 finish on the 1.5-mile speedway of Chicagoland, finishing eighth after starting sixth.
Pocono won’t be the first time however for Majeski piloting a Cunningham Motorsports ARCA car. In January, the Seymour, Wisc. native tested a third entry at Daytona (Fla.) Speedway during preseason testing alongside teammates Shane Lee and Dalton Sargeant.
“Ty has shown a tremendous amount of potential in his racing career,” said Roush Fenway Racing NASCAR XFINITY Series team manager Eric Peterson. “We are very excited to partner with Cunningham Motorsports this season to help with Ty’s development at select ARCA races. This is a great opportunity for him to get more experience on intermediate tracks and we are looking forward to his first race at Pocono in June.”
Sponsorship and a crew chief for Majeski, a current member of the NASCAR Next class were not announced.
