MARTINSVILLE, Va. – JTG Daugherty Racing said Jackman Zack Young, a crew member on the No. 37 Chevrolet team for Chris Buescher was transported to a local hospital after he was hit by another car during a pit stop early in Monday’s postponed Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway.
The pit stop occurred during the event’s competition caution at Lap 50 in the STP 500.
Young was awake and alert and was transported by ambulance after being examined in the infield care center following Stage 1.
Young was replaced by teammate AJ Allmendinger’s gasman Evan Marchal.
Young, a native of Vincennes, Indiana was also injured last spring at Texas Motor Speedway when another car sent Buescher spinning into Young as he jumped over the wall to service the vehicle.
Young suffered injuries to his hand and thumb in that collision.
A spokesperson for JTG Daugherty Racing had no immediate update on Young’s condition following Monday afternoon’s race. Buescher finished 23rd.
