DARLINGTON, S.C. NASCAR laid down the law Saturday morning at Darlington (S.C.) Raceway to Joe Gibbs Racing and their No. 19 NASCAR Xfinity Series team driven by Brandon Jones.
Jones’ team failed to clear his No. 19 Hope for the Warriors Toyota through pre-qualifying inspection Saturday morning four times forcing NASCAR to throw the book at the team ahead of this afternoon’s Sport Clips Haircuts VFW 200.
Jones won’t be able to qualify for the race and rely on a provisional for his placement into the 40-car starting field.
He’ll also have to serve a pass-through penalty following the green flag, almost certainly putting the Atlanta, Ga. native at least one lap down.
The car chief, Joey Elliott for Jones has been ejected from the race.
Both Jones and his team will lose 10 owner and driver points following the race.
The consequences also extend into next weekend’s Xfinity Series weekend at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, where the No. 19 will lose their pit selection for the Lilly Diabetes 250 and will serve a 30-minute practice hold.
Jones was 16th and 10th respectively in the two Xfinity Series practices held Friday at Darlington.
He will make his third start at the famed South Carolina raceway, earning a best finish of ninth in 2016 driving for Richard Childress Racing.
In other Darlington pre Xfinity qualifying inspection issues, Chase Elliott and GMS Racing lost their car chief Adam Ebel after failing inspection three times.
Additionally the No. 23 car failed pre-qualifying inspection three (3) times. Car chief Adam Ebel was ejected from this afternoon’s 167-lap race.
