NASCAR Xfinity Series driver Shane Lee has been released from H2 Motorsports, CATCHFENCE.com has confirmed.
The 26-year-old driver from Hickory, N.C. was announced as the new driver of H2 Motorsports in May at Charlotte (N.C.) Motor Speedway with the team making its debut at Iowa Speedway the next month.
In seven races, Lee earned the organization a best finish of seventh in the July race at Iowa Speedway. In five of those seven races, Lee delivered top-20 finishes.
The team found itself in contention for their first career win at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway in July, running top-five in the late stages of the Circle K Firecracker 250 but Lee’s No. 28 Circuit City Toyota Supra was spun in the closing laps. Lee recovered and finished 21st.
The team suffered only one did not finish this year at New Hampshire Motor Speedway after experiencing engine failure resulting in a 33rd place finish.
Lee would not confirm but sources informed CATCHFENCE.com that Lee was told his termination was performance-based.
Additional sources indicate the team may not compete in Saturday afternoon’s Sport Clips VFW 200 at Darlington (S.C.) Raceway as part of a restructuring plan.
The team skipped the three road courses during the month of August, but the team did compete at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway where Lee delivered a respectable 13th place run.
H2 Motorsports is owned by 23-year-old investor Matt Hurley.
Hurley did not immediately respond for comment.
