FONTANA, Calif.: Defending Pala Casino 400 race winner Kyle Larson had high hopes of defending his race title in the final event of the current track’s race configuration – but electrical woes plagued the Hendrick Motorsports driver in the early laps of the second NASCAR Cup Series race of the season.
While running in the top-10, Larson brought his No. 5 Hendrickcars.com Chevrolet Camaro to pit road on Lap 12 where he notified crew chief Cliff Daniels that he was losing power underneath the hood.
After a brief diagnosis, Daniels sent this driver back into competition but only until the competition caution waved at Lap 15 where they could attempt to further diagnose the issue.
Raising the hood again on Lap 16, Daniels made the move to call the car to the garage where they could make further repairs on what they believed was an electrical issue.
Larson returned to the track on Lap 30 – 15 laps in the arrears to the leaders.
He lost an additional lap after serving a one-lap penalty after fueling up the race car before the competition caution in the team’s efforts to help diagnose their issue.
