Hello Loyal readers and other folks. Considerin’ last night’s news from Washington regardin’ Osama Bin Laden, there’s not much here to capture your attention so I’ll just leave most of the race coverage to my capable writin’ cousin Granny Grouch. She does a great job as y’all know but I will have a few words here before I turn it over to her.
Denny Hamlin won the Nationwide race at Richmond Friday night. That is his hometown track, so, good for him I say! That boy had a real reason to show that wide smile of his. He got the money and trophy so another good for him I say! It was a relatively calm race by Richmond and this granny’s standards. But Duck and I were a little under the weather perhaps from a bad batch of buttermilk. Not really sure, but I’m just speculatin’. We did watch, of course, but we were a bit subdued what with runnin’ to the outhouse and all, but we did enjoy ourselves what with it bein’ a night race and all.
Saturday night Duck and I were in pretty good shape. Now that Cup race was a wild one! Seems the feud between Flyin’ Ryan and Jaun-toya is still a sore spot issue. I can’t help but wonder who said what and where afterwards but Pablo wouldn’t speak on camera and headed straightaway to his coach and Ryan headed to the NASCAR hauler. In the year of the “have at it” it appears to be different strokes for different folks but I do believe if push came to shove, Ryan would have been the one doin’ all of the pushin’ and shovin’. Know what I mean?
Anyway, there was so much jostlin’ up front I lost count of how many lead changes there were but only one lap really counts and that’s the last one. Course you know who won. Rowdy boy, in typical results, was cheered and booed alike. That booin’ stuff just don’t sit right with me. If ya can’t cheer then be quiet, I say, but that’s neither here nor there. Just give that boy a corn cob and he’ll take it to Victory Lane. Another good for him I say! How many is that anyway? I’ve lost count with that, too.
And now I want to say that yesterday this amazin’ country settled a great score with wickedness. Bin Laden’s death gave justice to thousands of people here in the good ol’ U.S.A. and elsewhere. Ya know the Cup race was named for 2 of our soldiers who enlisted on the same day, twin brothers they were. One lost his life in 2009 while servin’ this great nation and the other one is left to keep his memory alive. What a great command he gave to start that race and so fittin’ considerin’ this nation’s news the followin’ day. Duck and I are so proud of all our service men and women and so proud of our great country!
Evil does exist, folks, no doubt about that, but this is “one nation under GOD” ya know and another beast of prey has been given back to his maker. Please enjoy this video below:

Howdy Young’uns and all other folks too ! This is my racin’ report on Richmond International Raceway. First up, we saw the the Bubba Burger 250 Friday night, which got my Bubba’s motor runnin’ cause he thought they’d gone and named the darn race after him, crazy old fool! I told him he wouldn’t be so thrilled if I was to tell him he had to supply burgers for all the race fans, yeah, that shut the old boy, right up, right quick, I’ll say, but that’s neither here nor there! Let’s git to the racin’. Did y’all see that twelve year old purdy young girl who sang our National Anthem, her name was Alana Springsteen, my Lord have mercy, she could sing beautiful, just like a bird. I really enjoyed her good singin’, didn’t you? We only had three caution flags in this here race, leastwise that’s all I remember, anyways. Everybody purdy much behaved themselves and ran a purdy clean race for a change and of course we know that the hometown boy brought home the checkered flag, the trophy and the money, not to mention the braggin’ rights, that’s important too ya know ! ! !
I do have a burnin’ question a simmerin’ under my bonnet, though, and I still ain’t figured it out. I’m a wonderin’ why Kevin “Happy” Harvick and Kyle “Rowdy” Busch didn’t race in the Nationwide Series race, we all know that they were at the race track all weekend and they both ran in the Sprint Cup race, so what’s the BIG secret as to why they didn’t race Friday night? Bein’ a conspiracy theorist, like I am, I’m wonderin’ if it’s because the NASCAR officials are tryin’ to run them out of the Nationwide Series so some of the young’uns can have a chance to win a race or two. However, that doesn’t explain why Carl “Flipper” Edwards or Denny “Hometown” Hamlin were still in the race. Hmmm? Am I the only one confused by this development?
The Sprint Cup race was named “The Matthew and Daniel Hansen 400” after one of our Soldiers who lost his life in Iraq, if I remember correct-like, and his brother, who were bein’ honored. There were eight cautions in this race starting out when Ryan “RocketMan” Newman unintentionally got into Juan Pablo Montoya on Lap 106, man, was that ever the beginnin’ of another feud or the continuation of a simmerin’ rivalry, I’m not sure which? I’m sure we haven’t seen the last of this feud. But in my humble opinion, Ryan Newman is a Class Act under these circumstances, by sayin’ that it would be settled off the race track. Speakin’ of feuds, what’s up with “Mr. Five-Time” and his crew chief? Chad Knaus tellin’ the #48 how to drive, the #48 drivin’ all crazy like, gittin’ into Logano, just because, and where did the #48 finish, somethin’ like 30th? What’s up with that? Then there was Jeff Gordon, findin’ out where the safer barriers were NOT? You know, to his way of thinkin’, that will be fixed before they come back to race there again. Then, of course, there was the fuel mileage issue again in this race, I thought Denny had this race won and that he would get out the broom like Kyle has done, here lately, but of course Kyle had other plans in mind. Of course Kyle won his third consecutive year at Richmond. Denny Hamlin was second and Kasey Kahne third (knee surgery and all) bless his cute little heart, I’ve been havin’ a little knee pain myself, here lately, so I know what he’s a goin’ through, know what I mean???
In other news, before I git back to my chores, I’m runnin’ late again. I have to mention that it was announced Friday night (or maybe it was Saturday night, oh well, which ever, it’s neither here nor there!) that Elliott Sadler (who had his 36th Birthday on Saturday) and his purdy wife, Amanda, are expectin’ their second child, I say good, good, and good for them, Elliott said that he wants lots of kids so I guess they are working on their own Race Team and Pit Crew! hehehe Also, Tony “Smoke” Stewart has a new girlfriend, who is also a racer. That should work out real well, don’t ya think, Tony? I’m thinkin; it’s about time for you to settle down and enjoy your life in the company of a lovely young woman. Yes sirree, bob !
Finally, Michael Waltrip, who had his 48th Birthday, also on Saturday, competed in his first triathlon on Sunday, May 1st. I have not seen any results as of this writin’ but I will bring you a full report next week, as we report from our next racin’ location, which is Darlington. Have a great week everybody and don’t forget, we will be racin’ under the lights again next week. See you then, Granny Grouch, out!
