TALLADEGA – Full-time NASCAR XFINITY Series competitor Brian Scott wasn’t able to duplicate his thrilling second-place finish in Sunday’s GEICO 500 at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway.
Scott driving a Circle Sport Racing entry lost his Richard Childress Racing motor on Lap 18 heading into Turn 1. The Boise, Idaho native spun in his oil and collected Michael Waltrip who had nowhere to go in the No. 55 Aaron’s Toyota Camry.
Scott, driving the No. 33 Shore Lodge Chevrolet SS was making his first Cup start since Auto Club (Calif.) Speedway in March. It’s his worst Cup finish in 10 career starts.
“I have to apologize to the other teams that we took out,” Scott said. “Of course the bad thing about Talladega Superspeedway is when something happens other cars are all around you, unfortunate short end to our day. ECR engines and RCR everybody at the shop does a great job. The horsepower, our engines everything has been great. On the NASCAR XFINITY Series side they ran flawlessly. I hate it for our partners Shore Lodge, Whitetail, Albertsons, everybody to have our day ruined so early.”
Ironically, Scott had a miserable finish in the same race last year, after winning his first career Sprint Cup pole. A Lap 136 accident resulted in a 42nd place finish.
