PHOENIX, Ariz: In his final weekend with Team Penske, Brad Keselowski mounted the quickest lap in the lone 50-minute practice session at Phoenix (Ariz.) Raceway.
Keselowski in his No. 2 Discount Tire Ford Mustang circled the Avondale, Ariz. race track in 26.591 seconds at 135.384 miles per hour.
Kyle Larson was the highest of the Championship 4 competitors with the second quickest lap in his No. 5 HendrickCars.com Chevrolet Camaro.
Matt DiBenedetto in his final race with Wood Brothers Racing was third, Christopher Bell was fourth with Chase Elliott the second Championship 4 driver from Hendrick Motorsports rounding out the top-five.
William Byron took sixth, followed by Ryan Blaney, Championship 4 driver Denny Hamlin, Martinsville winner Alex Bowman and Tyler Reddick comprised the top-10.
Ross Chastain in his final race with Chip Ganassi Racing was 12th ahead of his CGR teammate Kurt Busch in 17th. Following Sunday’s Cup race at Phoenix – Trackhouse Racing will take ownership of the assets from CGR.
Joe Gibbs Racing’s and Championship 4 driver Martin Truex Jr. struggled with the balance of his No. 19 BASS Pro Shops Toyota Camry and maneuvered only the 18th fastest lap. For most of the session, Truex sat outside the top-20 in 21st.
Live Fast Racing’s BJ McLeod suffered engine failure in his No. 78 Ford Mustang and has resorted to a backup car for Sunday’s Cup Series Championship race.
39 cars are entered for the 36th and final Cup race of the season and all turned at least one lap of practice.
40 cars were eligible for a starting position.
Qualifying is set for Saturday, Nov. 6 at 7:00 p.m. ET | 4:00 MT with live coverage on NBCSN.
The green flag for the 312-lap race is set for Sun., Nov. 7 at 3:00 p.m. ET | 1:00 MT, also on NBC Sports Network and Motor Racing Network and SiriusXM Satellite Radio Channel 90.
