BRISTOL, Tenn. – Without hesitation one of the top storylines from Sunday’s Food City 500 was the impressive performance of JTG-Daugherty’s Chris Buescher.
Unfortunately, looking at the finishing order, you never would have known that Buescher’s No. 37 Bush’s Baked Beans Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 spent a majority of the race inside the top-10 and even plenty of laps inside the top-five.
However, in the waning laps of the race and shortly after a Lap 439 restart, Buescher informed his team that he had a serious vibration. Not taking any chances, Buescher pitted two laps later for right side tires which dropped him off the lead lap to two laps down.
Despite a late race caution, Buescher was never able to recover from the right rear loose wheel and settled for 22nd, a far cry from his impressive performance earlier in the day.
The finish would have been a season-high for the Prosper, Tex. native after finishing ninth earlier this year at Atlanta (Ga.) Motor Speedway. Instead, Buescher settles for his third race outside the top-20 and his worst finish since a 37th place run in the season-opening Daytona 500.
