KANSAS CITY – David Gilliland will compete in the North Carolina Education Lottery 200 at Charlotte (N.C.) Motor Speedway on Friday May 15.
For the third time this season, Gilliland will pilot the No. 92 Ford F-150 for Ricky Benton Racing. Gilliland competed at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway and Martinsville (Va.) Speedway for the Cerro Gordo, North Carolina-based team.
Gilliland finished sixth at Daytona and contended for a top-five finish at Martinsville in March before mechanical gremlins sidelined the Riverside, California native. The 39-year old is poised to make his sixth career NCWTS start overall in the fifth race of the season.
“They built a brand new truck for me for that race,” Gilliland told CATCHFENCE.com at Kansas Speedway. “I’ve loved working with those guys and can’t wait for another shot.
“I think we have a shot to win (the race).”
Gilliland will pull double-duty on Friday at Charlotte. In addition to his truck duties, the NASCAR veteran will attempt to put his No. 38 Front Row Motorsports Ford into the Sprint All-Star race by winning one of two segments in the Sprint Showdown held before the truck race.
The Californian is also an eligible recipient of the Sprint Fan Vote.
Gilliland’s weekend will only get busier as he plans to head to Toledo Speedway Saturday to watch his son, Todd make ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards history. When he takes the green flag in next Sunday’s Menards 200 at Toledo Speedway, the younger Gilliland will become the youngest driver to ever start an ARCA race.
The CARS Tour late model driver will make his debut in the No. 55 Toyota Camry for the potent Venturini Motorsports. Jeff McClure, a former XFINITY Series driver will serve as crew chief for Gilliland who turns 15 this Friday.
