AVONDALE, Ariz. – Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Championship 4 team owner Barney Visser won’t attend next weekend season finale at Homestead-Miami (Fla.) Speedway after suffering a heart attack last Saturday, Nov. 4.
The team announced the news on Friday morning at Phoenix.
Visser, owner of the No. 78 Furniture Row Racing Toyota driven by Martin Truex Jr. remains hospitalized following a successful bypass surgery on Mon., Nov. 6 in Denver, Colo.
Visser said he was not feeling well and experiencing numbness before checking into the hospital last Saturday.
“It’s a chance of a lifetime to be in position to win the NASCAR Cup Series championship,” said Visser. “I hope to be in touch with Martin and Cole (Pearn, crew chief) leading up to Homestead and participate without too much excitement.”
Truex’s stunning season in his fourth year of driving for the Denver, Colo.-based team has propelled the Mayetta, New Jersey native to the Championship 4 for the second time in his career with the team.
In 34 races this season, Truex has tallied a season-high seven wins, 17 top-five and 24 top-10 finishes.
He will join Kyle Busch and Kevin Harvick – whom he raced for the series title in 2015 in the Nov. 19 Ford EcoBoost 400. The final Championship 4 driver will be added following Sunday’s Can-Am 500 at Phoenix (Ariz.) Raceway.
