Hello loyal readers and other folks. Sorry this here race report is so blasted late but it was just a difficult situation I could not avoid. Long story short, a certain somebody thought they got the best of me and I proved ’em wrong. Yessirree I did. But to my total unhappiness that situation cost me a week’s worth of freedom but oh well is all I have to say about that cause a granny’s got to do what a granny’s got to do and that one somebody surely still has a headache and blue marks if ya know what I mean. Anyway Freezie Mae stepped up to take care of Duck, thank our good and gracious LORD, and Duck took care of the chickens and the rest of the chores had to wait ’til I was sprung from the Big House. Well, sprung from that dirty little ol’ cell, but, it was what it was and I’m not sorry one iota, whatever an iota is. Anyway, I did get home in time to see the races but mercy me I am just plumb tuckered out. Slept in this mornin’. Yessirree I did. So I’m writin’ this report late and plan to send it to the Bossman later. Guess he will put it up on Catchfence someday or pitch it out. Whichever, it is out of my hands but he’s a good boy. Know what I mean?
Anyway “Barney,” as we all around here call him, hehe, unlocked the cell and set me free about 5 Saturday mornin’. I made it home pert ner breakfast time but found the front door locked and everybody inside sleepin’. Oh my good and gracious LORD I was madder than a fly on sticky paper. I took to poundin’ on the door, got ’em up in rapid fashion and Duck (who was still struttin’ around like a peacock from Flippin’ Carl’s Nationwide victory at The Glen the week before) and I took to gettin’ the chores done in time to watch racin’. My oh my I have to tell ya it sure was good to sit on my own divan with my own snacks on my own crates and ready to watch my own TV with my own sweet Duck on my own divan. Freezie Mae hit the road as soon as her feet hit the floor, which was just dandy with me and it surely was good to be home. Yessirree it was!
Anyway, after all that stuff we settled in to watch the Trucks at Michigan with leftover store bought pizza for snacks on the crates. Course that was better than that nasty jailhouse food but I bet Freezie Mae didn’t cook at all while she was here. Anyway we cheered and quacked as JC took the green flag followed by Piquet, Jr., Miguel Paludo, Big Brother Busch and WYG. Rock’em Sock’em started 6th, Handsome started 22nd and the rest you can look up.
It was more than typical Michigan racin’ to our way of thinkin’. Why those truck driviers were maniacs and it was so thrillin’. Little did Duck and I know the whole race weekend was gonna be that way! Oh how it did this granny’s heart good and I needed it after bein’ locked up in this crazy country for a week, let me tell ya that one somethin’ right now. 100 laps at that place is just the best kind of crazy for Duck and me. And considerin’ how late this here report is we will just cut to the finish and tell ya that Piquet, Jr. won followed by Jason White, Armstrong, ParkerK and Buescher.. WYG finished 6th, Big Brother Busch finished 9th, Handsome finished 17th and Bodine and Townley finished 24th and 25th cause they were involved in wrecks. This was Piquet’s first win so GOOD for that boy I say. It was just amazin’.
Duck and I barely had time to gather up our thinkin’s on the race and share ’em with each other before the Nationwide race was upon us. I must say Duck and I weren’t thrilled to be watchin’ a road course race but oh my good and gracious LORD this race just thrilled Duck and I like we haven’t been thrilled in a racin’ spell, let me tell ya that one somethin’ right now. Course we love racin’ no matter what or where, as y’all know. I’m just sayin’. Course we all know some of these teams bring in their “expert” road racer ringers. Boris “the hair” Said, and I just love that boy’s hair, is one of the regular irregulars and there were others. That Villeneuve guy’s name is just so romantic soundin’. I used to love sayin’ it over and over tryin’ to perfect some sort of French accent but now I just call him Villy.. The pole sitter, Alex Tagliani, is another one of those “ringer” boys and a Montreal hometowner. He was followed by Hornish, Villy, That Girl (good for her) and Rowdy Boy who was one busy rascal that weekend. McDowell follwed him, WOG started 19th and the rest you can look up.
Let me tell ya one BIG ol’ one somethin’ right here and now this race was just plain ol’ amazin’. Boy were Duck and I ever wrong about this particular road course racin’. My dear Lord in Heaven we darn near raised our own and the neighbor’s roof whoopin’ and hollerin’. It was so excitin’. Those road course “ringers” won’t give an inch and you add them to our own drivers and you get one shock after another. Why I lost my breath a few times to tell you one truthful one somethin’. If you missed it shame on ya. Ain’t no fair way to describe it even close like.
I will say that Villy wasn’t givin’ anyone of the other drivers an inch. And he ain’t suppose to neither folks. The race finished on one of those green/white/checkered deals and nobody wants to see that but let me tell y’all this was worthwhile. Yessirree it was! On the final restart Villy boy was in the lead followed by Allgaier and Sam The Man. Fuel was a worry for quite a few and on that last lap Viily ran out of gas or so everybody thought. Allgaier got in to him when he slowed and passed him and won but Villy came back up to speed after that so who knows. Villy wasn’t a happy boy, though. He had a bit of a racin’ tantrum out there pullin’ up beside Justin and just sittin’ there. It was so cute when Justin just went around him and kept on doin’ his winnin’ donuts. But more on Villy’s little fit later. So Sam The Man finished 2nd followed by Siilly Villy who finished right where he started, Curly Sadler and that Fellows fellow. FTWWTK WOG finished 9th, Mike Wallace finsihed 7th so a big ol’ good for him and another big ol’ good for him goes to Mike Bliss who finished 13th. It was so good to see those 2 Mikes finish so well! Anyway the rest you can look up.
So with our belly’s full and our racin’ excitement more than satisfied Duck and I rested up a bit before we chatted’ about the Cup race at Michigan the next day. Duck fussed at me for lettin’ my mouth overload my walkin’ away feet but like I always say, a Granny’s got to, well you all know what I always say. Ain’t nobody nowhere gonna say no foolishness to me about JR. Ain’t gonna happen and then when this bully type wanna be said somethin’ about my mama, well the jail sendin’ somethin’ happened. Ah well what’s over is over. That is if it’s over. I’m just wonderin’.
So next mornin’;we scurried around here to get chores done, snacks on the crates and settled down on the divan for another Sunday Cup race. We were lookin’ forward to it. That Cutie part-timer Mark Martin was on the pole followed by Flippin’ Carl which had Duck in the best mood he’s been in in forever like. NSCJBMAS, Robo and Kutie. FTWWTK JR started 22nd but didn’t, Happy started 20th and Smoke 14th. The rest you can look up.
Markie was a rocket ship, let me tell ya that one somethin’ right now. It just looked like he was gonna be the car to beat but on lap 65 he took to slidin’ and hit the startin’ pit wall and just tore his Toyota all up. It was a nasty ol’ hit but it sure was good to see him climb outta there. He was so cute and just kept sayin’ how happy he was to be drivin’ equipment like that. And Markie, honey, Duck and I were too.
But anyway those Hendrick engines were a crap shoot that day. Or maybe better described as Forrest Gump’s (we just love that boy) “ya never know what yer gonna get” today, engine. Early on, Tony’s engine required work, Jeffie’s engine required work, and with 6 laps to go NSCJBMAS’s crapped out. Duck and I kept sayin’,”What? Another one?” We held our breath at the end for JR and Kutie Kasey, let me tell ya that one somethin’ right now.
Anyway this was another VERY excitin’ race too. Too late to give too much of a run down but trust this Granny if you will, if you missed any of this weekend’s races you just plain ol’ messed up. Period. After Markie wrecked we just concentrated on who was where. For awhile Flippin” Carl was fallin’ farther and farther behind but all of a sudden he was up towards the front again. Duck and I were both whoopin’ it up on that one for sure. And I ain’t lyin’ when I say we were worried about JR startnin’ in the back on a backup car but, oh small on we of little faith, I have to say. I have to say it again, this race was amazin’ and there were so many unexpecteds, too!
In the crazy, excitin’ end Biff took the win. GOOD for him I say! G/B Brad came home 2nd follwed by Kutie Kahne, Dale (woohoo) JR, and Aussie Man! It seemed like a win to Duck and I that Flippin’ Carl finished 6th so GOOD, GOOD for him I say. Rowdy finished 13th which is makin’ that team nervous about makin’ the Chase right along with several others. And the rest you can look up. As far as the Points Standin’s, Biff moved up 1 spot and is now in 1st. Robo is 2nd, JR is in 3rd and NSCJBMAS dropped 3 spots to 4th. 12th spot is still up for grabs. This whole Chase stuff is gettin’ excitin’ especially for Flippin’ Carl and Duck since Flippin’ is in the 12th spot down 134 points with Flyin’ Ryan 4 pooints behind him. This is gettin’ nerve wrackin’.
Anyway, now for some other stuff. I just read where Gil Martin will be back as Crew Chief for Happy. That should make Kevin TRULY happy if ya know what I mean cause he hasn’t won a race since Martin became that team’s director of competition. Glad Gil’s got his old hat back!
Another other stuff is that I did get to watch last week’s Cup race with the Sheriff so Duck and I have been wonderin’ if Rowdy and GB Brad were gonna talk the last week’s race stuff out. Well that never happened so far. I understand Rowdy’s upsetness but Brad did what any racer would do. That’s my take but I think Rowdy was more upset about this year’s finishes and whether he will be able to grab a spot in the Chase. That boy is upset with this whole season most probably. Talkin’ it out is probably the last choice of topic on his mind, nevermind what G/B wants accordin’ to news reports.
And now about Silly Villy’s little fit stuff when Allgaier won. Villy, darlin’, Justin ain’tt the only one capable of runnin’ in to someone. You did that to That Girl Danica and ended her day early so Villy, deary, the sun doesn’t rise or set on just your tail pipes. It could be said ya get what ya get. I’m just sayin’ it COULD be said. Know what I mean?
And finally I have to say, and this has nothin’ really to do with racin’, but that Jack In The Box commercial where Jack and his wife are playin’ a game somethin’ like Scrabble, is ugly. It really is just purely ol’ NASTY UGLY, folks. Why Duck has asked me several times what her word means. Now, listen here, I’m just way too old to be answerin’ questions like that. I mean……..oh my good and gracious LORD!
Anyway, there ya have it, real late though it may be. Email, comment, or…..oh nevermind. Granny and Duck over and out.
