FORT WORTH, Texas: Kurt Busch and sponsor Monster Energy will remain at Chip Ganassi Racing for the foreseeable future.
The team announced Saturday afternoon at Texas Motor Speedway that the Las Vegas, Nev. native and Monster Energy have each signed multi-year deals with the Concord, N.C.-based team.
Busch, 41, left Stewart-Haas Racing after last season and was signed by CGR last December in a one-year agreement.
Entering Sunday’s AAA Texas 500, Busch has one win, six top-five and 17 top-10 finishes. He made the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs but was eliminated after the Round of 16 with subpar results.
“Chip made me an offer that I couldn’t refuse,” Busch said. “For me personally, it is the fun and refreshing atmosphere working with Matt McCall and all the team here at Chip Ganassi Racing. All signs pointed toward, ’let’s keep going; let’s keep winning.’
“It has also been the fans, continuing to work with Monster Energy, the chance to be part of the Next-Gen car introduction in 2021, along with building on our successes in 2019 that together makes it an easy decision to continue here at Chip Ganassi Racing. Monster has been with me for nearly a decade and they are so much fun to work with; it is just a natural fit.”
With an expected agreement through the 2021 NASCAR Cup Series season, Busch has no intention of slowing down anytime soon.
“It means the world for this to come together,” Busch added. “There are still special moments ahead. There’s plenty of gas still in this tank.”
Team owner Chip Ganassi credited his driver’s enthusiasm, work ethic and leadership for making him a perfect fit within the powerhouse.
“I think he and Kyle (Larson) have had a great time being teammates,” Ganassi mentioned. “I think it has made Kyle a better driver having Kurt as a teammate. He brings a lot off the track. He brought a lot of guys on that 1 team their first Cup win. I’m very proud to keep him a part of this team for the foreseeable future.”
Monster will support Busch in a sponsorship role for the fifth consecutive Cup Series season in 2020.
“We’re racing people at Monster Energy and we knew immediately that we had found fantastic racing partners in Chip Ganassi, Kurt Busch and all involved at Chip Ganassi Racing,” said Mitch Covington, vice president of sports marketing for Monster Energy.
“NASCAR is a major part of who we are at Monster Energy and to be able to compete at a championship level with Kurt Busch and Chip Ganassi Racing truly reflects who we are and fires-up our desire to not only win races, but to make a serious all-in run at the 2020 NASCAR Cup Series title.”
