HOMESTEAD, Fla. – In quite possibly his last Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series (MENCS) race, Matt Kenseth earned a hard-fought sixth-place finish in the Ford EcoBoost 400 at Homestead-Miami (Fla.) Speedway.
For Kenseth, it was the second consecutive top-10 finish driving the No. 6 Ford Fusion for Roush Fenway Racing and his best run for the organization in 15 starts in 2018.
2011 Daytona 500 champion Trevor Bayne shared the ride with Kenseth but failed to earn a top-10 finish in his 21 starts this year aboard the No. 6 Ford Fusion. The 2003 champion rejoined the team in mid-May with new partner Wyndham Rewards in an effort to evaluate the No. 6 program.
The 46-year-old Kenseth started 17th for the second consecutive race and used a good handling race car to maneuver through the field during the opening stages of the season finale. During Stage 3 and green flag pit stops, Kenseth ran as high as second, but when a late race caution stacked the field again, Kenseth was aiming for his first top-five finish in a year.
In the closing laps, Kenseth couldn’t fend off Brad Keselowski and claimed sixth in his 19th Homestead start. The performance was also the sixth consecutive top-10 for Kenseth at the South Florida race track dating back to 2013.
