StarCom Racing announced Wednesday morning that Weyers Cave, Va. native Quin Houff has joined the organization for the 2020 NASCAR Cup Series season.
Houff, 22, will drive the team’s mainstay No. 00 Chevrolet Camaro beginning with the 2020 Daytona 500 at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway on Sun., Feb. 16, 2020.
“I’m very excited to become a part of the StarCom Racing family,” said Houff.
“This is the chance of a lifetime to be able to become a full-time NASCAR Cup driver and to turn my childhood dream into a reality. I can’t thank those that were involved throughout my career enough; especially my family and sponsors.”
After a partial season in the NASCAR Xfinity Series with JD Motorsports in 2018, Houff joined Spire Motorsports and its Premium Motorsports alliance this season where he competed in 17 of the series’ 36-race schedule where a 28th place finish at Charlotte (N.C.) Motor Speedway in the Coca-Cola 600 is his career-best finish.
Landon Cassill who has spent the last two Cup Series seasons driving for StarCom Racing had a contract through the end of the 2020 season. Although he won’t pilot the No. 00 Chevrolet next season, StarCom Racing said in a statement they have a plan for the Cedar Rapids, Iowa native that will be announced at a later date.
“We are thankful for all that Landon Cassill has brought to StarCom Racing’s program in 2019,” the team said in a statement. “We have a commitment to Landon that we plan to honor in 2020.
“Details to come at a later date.”
StarCom Racing general manager Derrike Cope says the organization will continue to develop next season ahead of its third full-time season in Cup Series competition.
“In our efforts to continue the progression of StarCom Racing, we have many plans for building the team in 2020 and being prepared for the introduction of the Next Gen car,” added Cope.
“I am pleased to have a young and passionate driver, Quin Houff, to continue his progression in the NASCAR Cup Series. He is a delightful, quick-witted young man that is eager to finally showcase his talents and race in his first Daytona 500.”
Houff showcased his potential in a limited stint in the ARCA Menards Series which will be owned by NASCAR next season.
In five starts for Mason Mitchell Motorsports between 2017 and 2018, he delivered two top-10 finishes. He also led 23 laps in his series’ debut at Daytona in 2017 but was involved in a late-race crash and finished 28th.
He is also a two-time winner in the CARS Super Late Model Tour.
“I also would like to thank StarCom Racing for this opportunity,” sounded Houff. “I am looking forward to building a reputation and experience alongside this young fast-growing team at the top level of motorsports.”
