LAS VEGAS, Nev – Dexter Bean who failed to qualify for Saturday afternoon’s Boyd Gaming 300 at Las Vegas (Nev.) Motor Speedway will be on standby for NASCAR XFINITY Series regular Joey Gase.
Gase who qualified his No. 52 Donate Life Nevada Chevrolet 35th is suffering from apparent food poisoning and may need a relief driver for the third race of the season.
Bean, a native of Westby, Wisconsin was in a second entry for King Autosports and posted the 34th quickest lap in qualifying Saturday morning, but because Bean’s No. 92 team didn’t have any owner points from last season, he joined Josh Reaume as drivers who failed to qualify.
Gase driving for legendary car owner Jimmy Means plans to start the race and will relieve to Bean if he feels he cannot make the entire race distance.
Gase is currently 25th in XFINITY Series points.
Bean himself is battling additional hardship this week. On Wednesday while en-route to Las Vegas, he lost his grandfather to cancer. The funeral is set for tomorrow, March 8.
