NASCAR Camping World Truck Series:
• After a week of controversy at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway, Ty Dillon scored his second win of the season and third of his NCWTS career at Texas Motor Speedway. Thoughts?
Kelly Crandall: In NASCAR it always seems to be that the guy who was a zero one weekend is a hero the next. Or vice versa. Dillon came back from controversy to not only win but dominate the field, there was no truck close to his on Friday. It was a great win for RCR being the 100th career win for the No. 3 and helps put RCR back in a positive light. Other than that, didn’t really see anything memorable about the race. It doesn’t help Dillon win the championship but does give him a bit of a positive note to leave the CWTS on as he heads for Nationwide in 2014.
Roger Holtsclaw: Though it was an impressive and dominating victory, it was too little too late. Lack of consistency, and a few poor decisions throughout the season has put him in a hole that is too far to dig out of now. Matt Crafton will be the 2014 Camping World Truck Series champion.
Chris Knight: You can have all the money in the word, it still doesn’t mean you’re going to win races. Ty Dillon won at Texas Motor Speedway, because he had a good truck and the talent to win the race. He deserves to be in NASCAR. That’s all I have to say about that.
Adam Niemeyer: Spoiled rich kids right? I guess it turns out that this Ty Dillon kid is good at racing too. Ty came back to the Lone Star state and dominated the race again, picking up his first win since he took it to the field at Kentucky Speedway in June. I think the win goes to show everyone who sided with Kevin Harvick that his comments were misguided, and I think it gives Ty a shot in the arm heading to the Nationwide Series next season.
Cary Strome: I hate to say I told you so but, I told you so. It gives me mixed emotions every time I see that No. 3 out on the track. It was nice to see the 100th win for the No. 3 and nothing against Ty, I wish it was Dale.
Lori Tyler: I love NCWTS Racing. I know, I say that every week, but to me, it’s the purest form of racing left in the sport. Bring on the tempers, bring on the talent, and let’s go racing. That’s what we have seen all season, and I imagine nothing is going to change.
• Pocono (Pa.) Raceway recently announced that they are lengthening the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race by 25 miles to make it the Pocono Mountains 150 on Saturday, August 2, 2014. Good move by the track?
Kelly Crandall: A good move and not just because it’s Pocono but because some truck races are too short in general, this will now give the fans more time to enjoy the great racing that the CWTS puts on. Pocono though, has been one of the great sites for truck racing and this should be a good move and it’ll provide for more racing, strategy and a good show. It’s been one of the quicker races that seemed to be over before it really began.
Roger Holtsclaw: Maybe not so much. Recently we have seen the track shorten the Cup race, a move which I feel was very good, but I see no benefit in making this race longer. It will be interesting to see how it makes the race different.
Chris Knight: A smart move by Pocono (Pa.) Raceway in my opinion. A lot of teams and drivers were complaining that they didn’t have enough time to get the job done with the race only being 50 laps. Proof has been in the pudding.
This is a change that I support and like. The fans deserve this as well as the teams and drivers. The trucks put on a heck of a show up in Long Pond and that will continue with the Pocono Mountains 150 next August.
I just wish they would have done it for the ARCA race too, especially with that series running on Friday, instead of their normal Saturday routine.
Adam Niemeyer: I don’t hate the move because if I recall correctly the truck race was almost like a road course race at Pocono where drivers were stopping early and then trying to stretch their fuel to the end of the race. The extra ten laps should make pit strategy even more interesting, and hopefully give fans a little more racing the day before the Cup Series.
Cary Strome: I am sure that it will not change the excitement of the race too much. It will still be the same racing that we are used to from there. There will just be more of it. I am not 100% sure as to why they made this change but I think more racing is always a good move.
Lori Tyler: I think so, I can’t get enough of this series, so you won’t hear me complain.
Thanks for reading, we’ll talk to you next week!
