Recently I had the pleasure of speaking with 13-year-old racer Chloe Lynch. Chloe is the niece of a longtime friend, Scott of Motorsports Web. Some people may believe a 13-year-old girl is just racing to have fun but not this young powerhouse. She is there to do a job, to further her experience, to make people take notice and to give her sponsors their money’s worth. Therefore I am extremely pleased and excited to introduce you to this genuinely talented and dedicated racer.
Chloe and her family live in Las Vegas. I asked her how she became interested in becoming a race car driver. “Before I started driving my Bandolero my dad loved to drive RC cars. He’s always been into cars, he’s a mechanic and one day we went to the races. He asked me if I wanted to be in a race car like the small cars in the Bandolero (Series) and I said yes. A few weeks later I had a car.”
I think I’ve been successful. I’ve only been racing for about 7 months but this past weekend we raced 4 races in 3 days. I placed 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 6th and placed 3rd overall in The Outlaw Division at the INEX Series Nationals in Las Vegas. I won Rookie of the Year in the Silver State Road Course Series a couple months ago and I took 3rd and 4th place when I raced down in Havasu. Three weeks ago I took 2nd place at Orange Show Speedway (in San Bernardino California) and set the fastest lap there and I have raced in 3 different states. I have raced in California, Arizona and my home track in, Nevada.”
I asked her about the speeds she can reach in those cars. “Well on the Road Course I was going just a little bit over 100 miles per hour and at my usual track in Las Vegas, at the Bullring, I run a little bit over 75, almost 80 (possibly higher).”
Chloe’s car number is 50, but that is more than just a number to her and her family. “I chose the No. 50 for Joshua Daniel Phillips. He was basically a brother to me. He was my older brother’s best friend and was always around. That number was his football jersey number at Legacy High School and they retired that number.
After high school he became a paratrooper in the ARMY and one night they were doing night jumps and he got tangled with another paratrooper, he was not able to pull the cord to his parachute and he died that night. So that is the number on my car and I have the paratrooper’s wings behind it so he’s always with me. He definitely has saved me during quite a few bad wrecks.
I always try to remember what my friend RJ pounded in my head. He said every time I twitch the wheel that’s a 10th of a second off my time and I fall behind so I try not to do that. When I’m in the race car and I’m on the track I make sure to stay as calm as possible so I don’t twitch the wheel or mess up my turns and I fall behind.”
I asked her about any wrecks and that some people might think a girl would panic when that happens. “Well, what keeps me calm when I wreck is I know that I have people to talk to who calm me down so I don’t do something I will regret and I know my supporters and everyone who is behind me will make sure I’m back out on the track the next day.”
And the names of her sponsors? “Ok, I have Electric California (they make the best sunglasses) and Bigger Brand Media, as well as Motorhead Mobile Mechanic, Urban Nest Realty and, of course, MotorsportsWeb.com.”
At that point, I had a chance to speak with Sheila, the mother behind this amazing racer. I told her how amazing her daughter is, and I know she must be extremely proud of her and that Chloe is extremely intelligent, as well.
“She really is. She’s been accepted into a Magnet Program and is one of only 35 children who was chosen from the Valley, so she will attend that High School (when the time comes).” She also informed me that Chloe is the only female driver in the Outlaw Division at her home track and is not intimidated by any of the other drivers and actually handled all of the correspondence relating to sponsorship. She created her own email account and contacted all of the companies using the tools provided by MotorsportsWeb.com.”
Keep in mind Chloe is only 13 years old and a force to be reckoned with on and off the track. She is the real deal!
I reached out to her sponsors for comment. Most of them were out of town or otherwise unavailable, however, I did hear from John, C.E.O. of Bigger Brand Media who said, “Thank you for taking the time to editorialize the amazing accomplishments of Chloe Lynch in such a short period of time. I think it is important to note that Bigger Brand Media and I are proud to support Chloe in her endeavors on the track and beyond as there is truly something special about this girl.
The race car may be her place of business but I believe her calling extends far beyond the track and she will be a great role model for empowering females to take chances and break the mold of societal programming. She may be tiny but this girl is mighty and I believe we are at the early stages of one girl’s life that will undoubtedly leave lasting impressions
I totally agree John.
