Hello loyal readers and other folks. This weekend the Cup boys had Sunday off so we, once again, had a 2 race weekend with the trucks on Friday and the Nationwide group on Saturday. Sunday was Easter so that was a day when all those racers could spend some much needed time enjoyin’ their families and the other way around to my way of thinkin. Duck and I switched it up a bit for Easter but more on that later.
So Friday at Nashville we were treated to an under the lights race. Those night time races remind Duck and I of so many fun filled happening’s around these parts under the lights, if ya know what I mean. We have an annual Runnin’ Of The Ducks Festival here and one year we decided to do an under the lights festival includin’, but not limited to, the duck race. That was the first race I entered Duck in. He found me a week or two before that and I figured what the heck, I’d try seein’ what bein’ a racin’ duck owner was like. Gave me a whole new perspective on bein’ a race whatever owner, let me tell you that one somethin’ right now. Findin’ sponsors, hero cards, media exposure and the like is time comsumin’ and tirin’. Mercy that night race was a mistake, believe this granny or not. First off some of those nitwit racin’ duck owners had been partyin’ all through the day so by race time they were staggerin’ out of control. Know what I mean? Probably somethin’ like some of the race fans in the grandstands at some of those NASCAR events. I’m not pickin’ on anyone ya understand, I’m just wonderin’. Anyway, long story short, at the end of that particular night duck racin’ event the judges were too, shall I say, impaired to make a decision. Talk about confusion? We had to review the Beta tape to see what duck finished where. Course Duck won and we both knew he had and while I was so proud of him I believe that was what began his flippin’ Carl obsession. Duck wore the #99 number. That wasn’t by choice ya understand. It’s what we drew much like I think the drivers do for qualifyin’. The rest you can probably figure out in your own mind, but, none of that is here nor there as far as this here race report.
Anyway, Boy Howdy Rowdy led the pack and as usual Duck and I cheered and quacked as the green flag flew. That oh so talented Austin Dillion started 2nd followed by Johnson (not to be confused with same champ Jimmie), Piquet, Jr. and that cute curly headed but recently cropped Elliott Sadler. That handsome Hornaday started 8th and you can look up the rest. Know what I mean? Nashville is one of those short tracks that offer such fun and excitement cause the action changes quicker than you can cuss the cat, if you’re inclined to talk ugly like that, and it did. Course the only lap that counts is the last lap and to save time here Hornaday took the lead from Rowdy boy with some 3 laps or so to go. Course that is a pickled place to be at that time and sure enough it didn’t last. Ron and Kyle were battlin’ right and left, literally, but Kyle took the win and artwork guitar. It was nice to see him hold it and not smash it up. Ron said he just wore the (already old) tires out and on the last lap he finished in the 4th spot. He got passed by the 2 P’s, Piquet and Peters for the 2nd and 3rd spots. Buescher came home 5th and the rest you can look up.
The Nationwide race was sure an amazin’ one. What a surprise with a pert near last minute deal for wide smilin’ Joey Logano. That boy took the pole! Will wonders never cease and good for him I say! Anyway, he was followed by that cutie and news grabber Trevor Bayne, Big Richard’s grandson Austin Dillion, Stenhouse and Rootie Reutiman. For those who want to know, I’m feelin’ generous at this particular moment so Rowdy Boy started 6th and followin’ him was Flippin’ Carl, amazin’ cropped Elliott, another wide smilin’ young ‘un Brad Kelselowsi and Brian Scott. The rest you can look up if you see fit. So, as always, as the green flag flew and Duck and I took to quackin’ and cheerin’ respectfully.
Brad kept the lead and the others were battlin’ it out amongst themselves until about lap 19 when Carl took the lead. As you can guess, Duck was all over me and the divan at that particular point. I don’t know if any of you loyal readers or other folks have been whacked about the head by a race crazed duck, but it can hurt, let me tell ya that right much now.
Anyway, Carl held the lead with a nice clearance until around lap 139 or so. Kyle took the lead on lap 145 or pert near that and Flippin’ Carl was in hot pursuit. From that point on it was a close at some times but not always battle between those 2, except for a brief appearance in the top spot from Kesleowski. From that point on Carl and Kyle were the 2 main men. Rowdy boy tried but in the end Carl had the real power and won the artwork guitar and Duck’s loyalty and excitement, thank our good and gracious LORD. Good for him I say! That should hold Duck’s depression off for a spell this granny is hopin’. So Carl pulled up in front of the grandstands and did his famous flip and naturally Duck did the same. I hate it when he does that! What a mess! Popcorn and feathers everywhere, in my hair, mouth and up my nose! I guess it was worth it, though. Duck wore himself out celebratin’, quackin’ and dancin’ around here, crazy fool! When I finally got him settled in to bed he made those cute little duckly noises all night long! It’s been awhile since we’ve had that kind of peace around here. I’m as grateful as any granny could be! Know what I mean?
Now for some other stuff. Duck and I decided we would go out to a restaurant for Easter dinner this year. I was amazed at the places that turned us away because they don’t cater to ducks or any other animals. Can you believe that? We were runnin’ out of options when we came across a little place in the wide spot of some previously unknown to us road. Anyway they let us in! Oh my good and gracious LORD, there were all kinds of critters in there includin’ a jackass. Now I’m not callin’ someone a bad name here. It was a jackass! But we thought it best to eat and run and we did just that, let me tell ya that much right now! I’m thinkin’ that is the only time we will do that, but the food was tasty and the place was as clean as it could be all things considered. Know what I mean?
Next up, Rowdy Boy won his 2nd Nashville race in a row and 2nd truck race of this season and led 140 of the 150 laps. I’m tellin’ ya one somethin’, that boy is a force to be reckoned with. Course he has some amazin’ equipment and all, but this granny believes he could drive a corn cob and win, all stuff bein’ equal. He also wracked up his 20,000th lap led between all 3 series. Like that boy or not, he gets the job done! Good and good for him, I say!
Additionally I read where Turner Motorsports has added Blake Feese to it’s part time driver line up. I remember watchin’ that boy in the ARCA Series a few years back, so good for him I say! That gives Turner a big variety of drivers with that cute as can be Mark Martin on their part time list. This granny just adores that man! His smile reminds me so much of my late husband Elmer’s smile, but, I do know that’s neither here nor there, I’m just rememberin’.
And again I want to say I am glad to see Rowdy boy didn’t crash up that piece of artwork guitar. And fittin’ly, rather than crash it up they are gonna offer that up for auction on that ebay thingie place for a very good cause to benefit the widow of someone near and dear to that organization. Good, good and good for all of them I say. That is a sweet and generous way to honor someone. Yessirree.
And finally have y’all seen those commercial type spots with Brad Keselowsi on nascar.com? My oh my I do enjoy those. That boy is witty as well as wide smilin’ and talented. Let me tell ya that much right now. I can’t decide which one I like the best, but that’s neither here nor there. So it’s time to see what Cousin Grouch has to say. Take it away, there Grouch, dearie.

Howdy young’uns and other folks too ! I hope y’all had a Happy Easter! Did ya hear that the Easter Bunny was a protestin’ havin’ to deliver the Easter eggs this year? He said the chickens could deliver their own eggs, but I guess that’s neither here nor there, as Granny Grump would say!
Let’s get right to the subject of racin, shall we? That handsome bunch of Truck Series drivers gave us another excitin’ race this weekend, didn’t they? I’ll say! For awhile there I thought that handsome rascal, Hornaday was goin’ to win that race at the line, but I guess I shoulda figured if it was at all possible, “Rowdy” Busch would bring home the guitar! I’m just happy to see he took care better care of it this time around, ain’t you? I saw a picture of Kyle celebratin’ with his purdy new wife, I was glad to see that because all the other celebratin’ pictures of him by hisself with the trophy are gettin’ confusin’- – -I can’t remember which one goes with which race !
Did you hear that Elliott Sadler was a rookie in the Nashville race? That don’t hardly seem right to my way of thinkin, but then, who am I to question the Big Boys, anyhow? Sometimes, at my age, you gotta let some things slide, if you know what I mean! Ol’ DW was fillin’ in for Mikey Waltrip, for this race broadcast, which was convenient since he lives in Tennessee, don’t ya think? I guess Mikey was off to France, practicin’ for the Le Mans race he’s plannin’ to run. I guess its true what they say about takin’ the racin’ out of a racer, or not! I say good for him, yes sirree ! And did I hear right? – – – another three weeks before the next Truck race? Yep, I just checked the schedule and Friday, May 13th it is! I guess I’m just wonderin’ how they’re supposed to keep up their momentum, with such huge gaps between races, but I guess that’s another one of those “let it slide” moments for this Granny. Don’t ya think? I’d better leave that for the drivers and their crews to figure out, I’d say! And did you notice that I said Friday the 13th, shhhhh ! ! !
Lastly, I’m runnin’ out of time, young’uns, we have the Nationwide race where Joey Logano was able to find a sponsor at the last minute and run the race, so he grabs the pole position and he’s off to the races, good for him, I say! It seemed, to this old woman, that it took forever to get this race “Green flagged”! I thought they were gonna interview the janitor, who sweeps up the grandstands after the race, did anyone else get the same impression or am I just impatient in my ripe old age? I must say that I was real surprised to see David “Beak” Reutimann drivin’ for Rusty Wallace Racin’. I never thought I’d see that day but then there sure ain’t nothin’ wrong with that, neither, I was just surprised, that’s all. And how about that Carl “Flipper” Edwards with his AFLAC Duck winnin’ self? I must say that I didn’t think “Cousin Carl” had the car to beat Kyle “Rowdy” Busch but he sure did git the job done! That’s a “Good for him”, I’d say! I was chucklin’ to myself, thinkin’ ’bout Granny Grump havin’ a BIG mess all over her livin’ room again, what with all the excitement Duck goes through when he’s a winnin’ ! hehehe Open the door for the goat, Granny ! ! ! hehehe
Well, I gotta git back to the chores, don’t ya know? A woman’s work is never done- – -from sun up to sun down. WHEW ! ! ! A woman gits tuckered out, what with all this manual labor and stuff- – -where’s all the men folk when ya need ’em, I ask??? Next week we’ll be racin’ at Richmond International Raceway and the Sprint Cup boys will be back in action, along with the Nationwide boys. Have a great week, Everybody ! Enjoy the racin’ and git back here for our full report right here, in this very spot next week. Granny Grouch, out!

Once again you did a great job, cousin dear. Good racin’ smarts just run in the family except for, well nevermind. I don’t want to get you worked up again. You’re so knowledgeable there, cousin. I love your factual side! Good for you, I say!
So that’s it for this week. Duck and I are plannin’ a possible getaway here sometime soon. We’ll keep ya posted, but I will leave the writin’s to my very capable cousin. Email, comment or don’t. Either way is fine because we are both very busy women. Know what I mean. Grump and Grouch over and out!
