Ben Kennedy has a new home in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS).
The 24-year-old is expected to be announced Monday afternoon as the driver of the No. 33 Chevrolet Silverado, a team spokesperson confirmed to CATCHFENCE.com.
Kennedy, the great-grandson of NASCAR founder Bill France Sr. will make his team debut in the upcoming Toyota Tundra 250 at Kansas Speedway on Fri. May, 6.
“I am very excited to join GMS Racing for the remainder of the 2016 season,” said Kennedy in a team release. “I have watched the organization grow into a powerhouse team over the last year. All of their teams show up to the track each weekend with fast Chevrolets and I have total confidence that GMS will provide me with a solid truck each weekend. It’s a great privilege to join Johnny (Sauter), Spencer (Gallagher), Kaz (Grala) and Grant (Enfinger) in the driver lineup. I am looking forward to the accomplishments we will achieve together as a team.”
Kansas will mark the first of a minimum 10 races for the Daytona Beach, Florida native aboard GMS Racing’s third full-time truck entry. Kennedy will be joined by Daytona race winner Johnny Sauter and sophomore driver Spencer Gallagher.
Kennedy, a two-time winner in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East (NKNPSE) started the season with Red Horse Racing with a best finish of 11th in the series’ most recent race at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway on Apr. 2. After three races, he is 13th in the championship standings with 20 races remaining on the schedule.
The son of International Speedway Corporation (ISC) chief executive officer Lesa France Kennedy, the University of Florida graduate has 53 career NCWTS starts with six top-fives and 16 top-10 finishes. His best finish is third, four times, most recently at Las Vegas (Nev.) Motor Speedway last September. Kennedy also scored his first career pole last February at Atlanta (Ga.) Motor Speedway, before finishing third.
Jacob Companies who sponsored Kennedy at Red Horse Racing will back the No. 33 Chevrolet for the fourth race of the season.
