2018 NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series champion Brett Moffitt is recovering following surgery after he was injured in a motocross bike accident Saturday.
Moffitt, 27, suffered fractures in both of his legs in the incident. His estimated rehabilitation time is six to eight weeks.
The Grimes, Iowa native is currently fourth in the Truck Series championship standings following the first two races at Daytona and Las Vegas for GMS Racing who released the following statement Monday afternoon:
“GMS Racing No. 23 driver Brett Moffitt is recovering from surgery following an accident Saturday on a motocross bike in which he suffered a fracture in both of his legs.
Moffitt is in very good spirits and his doctors expect a full recovery.
Rehabilitation is estimated to take up to six to eight weeks.”
Moffitt would have been racing at Atlanta (Ga.) Motor Speedway for the Vet Tix | Camping World 200 on Saturday, but the COVID-19 pandemic halted action in NASCAR’s top three national series for Atlanta and this weekend at Homestead-Miami (Fla.) Speedway.
The Centers for Disease Controls (CDC) has recommended that all events exceeding 50 individuals, or more be canceled or postponed for the next eight weeks.
Moffitt has 61 Truck Series starts with three poles, 11 wins, 29 top-five and 36 top-10 finishes. He has also led over 700 laps. 10 of his triumphs have come during the 2018 and 2019 seasons for Hattori Racing Enterprises and GMS Racing respectively.
