SPARTA, KY: ThorSport Racing announced Thursday afternoon at Kentucky Speedway that current NASCAR Xfinity Series driver Chase Briscoe will return to Eldora Speedway next month to defend his NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series title on Aug. 1.
Briscoe in a one-truck deal last year edged ThorSport teammate Grant Enfinger to win his second career Truck Series race in a race funded by Ford Motor Company.
This year, Briscoe will pilot the No. 27 Ford F-150 with new partner DIAEDGE, a brand of tools that brings together cutting-edge technologies. Briscoe met some of the company executives of the company through an employee function at GoPro Motorplex in Mooresville, N.C.
The opportunity to coach and race with the employees has paid off for Briscoe who will make his 25th career Truck Series start in a fourth ThorSport Racing entry.
“Super exciting for me to go back to Eldora to try and win two in a row,” Briscoe offered. “Nobody’s been able to do that, so it’s certainly something I’d love to do.
“It’s the only dirt race that we get to go back and race that has dirt on it. There’s a lot of pride in being the guy to win that race. Eldora’s dirt racing is what Daytona is for pavement racing. It’s the pinnacle. If you win at Eldora, it’s like winning at Daytona.”
To help Briscoe defend his win in last year’s Eldora Dirt Derby, the Sandusky, Ohio team is bringing back the same Ford F-150 along with the same crew to assist the Mitchell, Ind. native who is eyeing his third career NGOTS victory.
Bud Haefele, the team’s current shop foreman will oversee the efforts.
In 24 previous Truck Series starts, Briscoe has earned four poles, two wins, 11 top-five and 15 top-10 finishes.
ThorSport Racing has won the past two Eldora Dirt Derby races. In addition to Briscoe’s Dirt Derby win in 2018, series veteran Matt Crafton took the win in 2017.
