Former NASCAR Camping World Truck Series mainstay Rick Crawford was arrested in Seminole County, Fla., on Thurs.
According to the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office, Crawford, 59, was arrested on March 1 and is currently being held without bail.
The Mobile, Ala. native is listed as being held as a federal inmate.
According to the federal complaint, a copy of which was obtained by KickinTheTires.net, Crawford is being detained on federal charges of “attempted enticement of a minor.”
He is alleged to have responded to an Internet posting for “taboo” contract with a father and was described as his 12-year-old minor daughter.
Crawford’s next court date, a preliminary and detention hearing, is set for Thursday, March 8 at 2 p.m. ET in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida.
According to Motorsport.com, NASCAR officials on Saturday said they were aware of Crawford’s arrest but had no further comment. A NASCAR spokesman did say that Crawford is no longer a member of the National Motorsports Appeal Panel.
Sources tell CATCHFENCE.com that Crawford was scheduled to hear an appeal involving Truck Series team, ThorSport Racing and their infraction from Daytona International Speedway next week in North Carolina. Crew chief Eddie Troconis could face at least a one-race suspension after their No. 41 Ford failed post-race height measurements after finishing fourth in the NextEra Energy Resources 250 on Feb. 16.
Crawford made 336 career starts in the Truck Series, a majority with Circle Bar Racing and had five career victories, including the 2003 race at Daytona International Speedway. He finished a career-high second in the championship standings in 2002 behind Mike Bliss.
His last start came in the 2012 season and his most recent victory occurred in 2006 at Lucas Oil Raceway, formerly known as Indianapolis Raceway Park. He also made two Xfinity Series starts in 2011 and 2012 driving for Mike Harmon Racing and Jennifer Jo Cobb Racing respectively.
Crawford is also a former promoter and manager of Mobile International Speedway in Irvington, Ala.
