GMS Racing has added two races to Ben Kennedy’s NASCAR Camping World Truck Series schedule.
Kennedy will continue to drive the No. 33 Chevrolet Silverado in the upcoming races at Iowa Speedway on Jun. 18 and Gateway (Ill.) Motorsports Park on Jun. 24 upping a minimum of 10 races to at least 12 races in his pursuit of his first career victory.
“I am really happy with the progress we have made since I joined GMS Racing,” Kennedy said in a statement. “I’m excited to continue that growth throughout the next three races at Texas, Iowa and Gateway.”
Kennedy, a two-time winner in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East (NKNPSE) started the season with Red Horse Racing for three races with a best finish of 11th at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway on Apr. 2.
He joined the Statesville, North Carolina-based team as a teammate to Spencer Gallagher (No. 23) and Johnny Sauter (No. 21) at Kansas Speedway last month where he earned a season-best ninth in his team debut.
After six races, he is 12th in the championship standings with 17 races remaining.
The son of International Speedway Corporation (ISC) chief executive officer Lesa France Kennedy, the University of Florida graduate has 56 career NCWTS starts with six top-fives and 17 top-10 finishes. His best finish is third, four times, most recently at Las Vegas (Nev.) Motor Speedway last September. Kennedy also scored his first career pole last February at Atlanta (Ga.) Motor Speedway, before finishing third.
Other races confirmed for Kennedy at GMS Racing include: Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway (Aug. 17), Chicagoland Speedway (Sept. 16), Las Vegas (Nev.) Motor Speedway (Oct. 1), Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway (Oct. 22), Phoenix (Ariz.) International Raceway (Nov. 11) and the season-finale at Homestead-Miami (Fla.) Speedway (Nov. 18). Both the team and Kennedy remain optimistic about adding more races throughout the season.
Sponsorship for Iowa and Gateway have not been finalized, a GMS Racing spokesperson told CATCHFENCE.com.
The NCWTS resumes action next Friday night Jun. 10 for the Rattlesnake 400k. The 24-year-old has four starts in the Lone Star state with a best finish of ninth last November.
