For the second time this week, GMS Racing has announced a driver change for it’s No. 25 GMS Racing Chevrolet Silverado ahead of Sunday afternoon’s Chevrolet Silverado 250 from Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.
On Wednesday, the Statesville, N.C.-team announced that regular driver Dalton Sargeant would not drive the team’s fourth truck “due to unfortunate circumstances with Sargeant Motorsports” and named GMS Racing mainstay driver Spencer Gallagher as the team’s replacement.
However, the team said Friday morning that Gallagher reinjured his shoulder during a workout routine and would be forced to sit out Sunday’s race.
Timothy Peters, the Truck Series veteran was named the replacement driver.
“From a preexisting shoulder injury, Spencer Gallagher will not be in the seat of the No. 25 this weekend at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park after reinjuring his shoulder during a Thursday workout session,” said GMS Racing president Mike Beam.
“Going to such a technical course, a driver requires full mobility. Gallagher will return to Las Vegas to work with his personal physical therapist. Timothy Peters will climb behind the wheel this weekend in Canada with further information regarding the No. 25 Chevrolet being released at a later date.”
Peters a 10-time Truck Series winner has been idle for most of the season and has just one start this season with Ricky Benton Racing at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway in March finishing seventh.
The part-time team failed to qualify for last Thursday night’s UNOH 200 at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway with Peters at the helm.
“I really appreciate Mike (Beam) and everyone at GMS Racing giving me a call to fill-in for Spencer (Gallagher). I do hate the circumstances that he is not able to get behind the wheel this weekend, but I do appreciate the call,” Peters said in a statement.
“It’s nice to know that there are people out there that believe in my abilities and I have a shot to come over and drive top-of-the-line equipment this weekend for GMS.”
Peters, 37, has four starts in Bowmanville, Ontario with a best finish of eighth in 2013.
The Providence, N.C. was a full-time driver in the series from 2009 – 2016 and finished a career-high second in the championship standings with Red Horse Racing in 2012.
