Ahead of his hometown race in Saturday afternoon’s Chevrolet Silverado 250 at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway, GMS Racing announced Grant Enfinger Friday afternoon as the team’s driver of the No. 23 Chevrolet Silverado for the next two NASCAR Camping World Truck Series seasons beginning at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway in February 2022.
Enfinger returns to the potent Statesville, N.C.-based organization after winning team owner Maury Gallagher the 2015 ARCA Menards Series championship.
The following season, he ran seven Truck Series efforts for the Mike Beam-led outfit, which included his first career Truck Series victory at Talladega in the fred’s 250.
“It’s an honor to be coming back to GMS Racing, the place where I was able to jump start my career in NASCAR. Together GMS Racing and I saw a tremendous amount of success – winning races and championships – and I’m ready to pick up where we left off,” said Enfinger.
Joining Enfinger on the move to GMS Racing will be longtime supporter, Champion Power Equipment, who will serve as primary sponsor of the No. 23 Silverado for the majority of the next two seasons.
Champion Power Equipment has played an integral role in his career, with a relationship that dates back to 2015.
“Champion Power Equipment started our motorsports journey with GMS Racing in 2014, joining forces with Grant’s program at GMS Racing in 2015, and we have never looked back,” said Dennis Trine of Champion Power Equipment.
“Year-after-year we are seeing the value that a partnership with not only Grant, but in NASCAR, brings to our company. Our consumers are outdoor enthusiast and we are able to connect with them directly at NASCAR race tracks, allowing us to see measurable growth through the life of the partnership. We look forward to continuing that growth with Grant and the GMS Racing team over the next two seasons.”
Enfinger, 36, spent four seasons (2017 – 2020) driving the No. 98 truck for Sandusky Ohio’s ThorSport Racing, but this season, the Fairhope, Ala. native has split the year driving for two race teams, ThorSport and CR7 Motorsports.
The lack of sponsorship forced Enfinger to miss the second race of the season at the Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway Road Course. Because he did not participate in the race, he became ineligible to compete for the Truck Series championship, despite posting six top-five and 11 top-10 finishes this year heading into Saturday afternoon’s Playoff race.
With a program in place for the next two years, Enfinger can get refocused on hunting a second championship with GMS Racing.
“It’s so great to know where I’m going to be for the next couple of years, as I’m used to finding out around January each season,” added Enfinger. “To have this deal signed this early ahead of the season is huge for me personally and career-wise, and I can’t wait to get started.”
A crew chief has not been named for Enfinger’s effort.
The six-time Truck Series winner is the second driver to be announced for GMS Racing full-time next season in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series.
Rookie Jack Wood will return the operation next year in preparation for his first full season of NCWTS competition. Wood, 20, has one top-10 finish in nine Truck Series races this year leaning into his first superspeedway race Saturday afternoon.
