Dover, Del. — Fresh off back-to-back competitive runs at Kansas Speedway and Charlotte (N.C.) Motor Speedway, Justin Boston had high hopes in Friday afternoon’s Lucas Oil 200.
After all in 2013, Boston nearly pulled off an upset win driving for Venturini Motorsports in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East finishing second to fellow truck competitor Austin Hill.
Those high hopes quickly faded when Boston found himself involved in an early wreck at the Monster Mile. While running inside the top-10, Boston lost control of his No. 54 ROK Mobile Toyota Tundra after sliding into Brandon Jones.
Unable to save his Kyle Busch Motorsports truck, Boston hit the backstretch wall hard. The former ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards standout climbed from his battered truck uninjured.
Boston later tweeted: “Heartbroken for my guys. They worked hard on it all weekend. Onto Texas.”
He added, “Well, it is definitely an unfortunate day for us here. This is my home track and we had a really fast 54 ROK Mobile Tundra. To be honest I’m really upset. There’s a couple guys who run you really close in this series and don’t give you an inch of room.
“When you’re that early in the race, you have to give guys some room and that’s what happened. I ran out of room on the apron and came up on the track and hit the 33 (Brandon Jones) and ended our day. It’s unfortunate – we’ll go get them in Texas. We have fast trucks and we’re moving in the right direction, it’s just unfortunate we didn’t get to run all the laps today.”
His 30th place result dropped him to 11th in the championship standings tied with Ray Black Jr.
