Hello loyal readers and other folks. The Nationwide series had the weekend off so we were treated to another just 2 races to fill our need for speed allowin’ us to have Friday to do whatever we needed to do to get ready for Saturday and Sunday. I’m a very busy woman as you all know, so sometimes that’s to my likin’ especially dealin’ with this disgruntled Duck. So the Truck and the Cup drivers were at Martinsville. That place makes me all jittery just thinkin’ about it, let me tell ya that much right now. That’s one of those “never know what to expect” places right there. Yessiree Bob, whoever Bob is.
Rock’em Sock’em Sauter was on the pole, followed by rookie Cole Whitt, Kevin Harvick, that cute little power house Austin Dillion and Boy Howdy Rowdy. Martinsville was true to it’s reputation for sure. Those boys were beatin’ and bangin’ from the get go, if ya know what I mean. Flippin’ Carl wasn’t runnin’ in this particular event, so that was better for my viewin’ experience as far as Duck goes. Oh he was somewhat saddened but he loves Martinsville too and fell into the excitement after a few laps. That gave me real encouragement for Sunday’s event. I can tell ya that much right now. But, well more on that later.
Amazin’ly only 2 trucks were out of the race due to wrecks. Those were Jeffrey Earnhardt and James Buescher just a little past half way. I read where that is the last race for Jeffrey in the RWR stable for somethin’ or another. I don’t understand all that legal mumbo jumbo and don’t much care to tell ya the truth, but that saddens this granny cause I am a big any Earnhardt fan, which is neither here nor there. I just hope he gets another ride soon. Know what I mean? The more the merrier I say. Anyhow Rowdy had the lead with 2 laps to go but Sauter got in to him and passed him and won that race! Wow that was excitin’ racin’ right there. That was Rock’em Sock’em’s first win this year so he had a lot to celebrate, I can tell ya that much right now. Well that and he has a baby on the way, due today! Good, good, good and congratulations to him I say! Kyle was very disappointed because amazin’ly that boy has never won at Martinsville. He wasn’t mean or nasty when they talked to him. He was just disappointed a big bunch over comin’ in second. I’m tellin’ ya one somethin’ right now, that boy has calmed down so much. His brother went through all that bad behavin’ stuff too and he has settled down considerably, as well. Course some sheriff out in Arizona a few years back just might have had a little one somethin’ to do with that. I’m not real sure about that, I’m just sayin’. Anyhow that handsome Ron Hornaday came home 3rd followed by cutie Kevin Harvick and Timothy Peters. That was excitin’ racin’ right there folks. And just paved the way for Sunday, let me tell ya that much right now. It just doesn’t get any better than that. It very much reminded me of my late husband Elmer and Bubba racin’ each other in circles on tractors out in the cow pasture years ago. Slippin’, slidin’, passin’ and getting’ passed. Why we had some photo finishes, arguments and some knuckle bustin’ for sure! Those 2 fools. It was excitin’, smelly, but excitin’. But that’s neither here nor there, I’m just rememberin’ and sayin’.
So Sunday we were treated to another action packed race. That just adorable Jamie McMurray had the pole followed by Flyin’ Ryan, that cutie Kasey Kahne, wide smilin’ Joey Logano and Denny Hamlin. A lot of folks thought the same champ Jimmy or sweet Jeff Gordon were favorites to win but that didn’t happen. Oh my good and gracious LORD, that was an amazin’ race! Best one this year to my way of thinkin’. There were just so many unexpecteds all over the place. Course Fliipin” Carl racin’ was a plus for my initial race viewin’, but Duck was sort of cautious in his exuberance cause Carl started 23rd but I counseled him that startin’ positions didn’t amount to a hot pot at this track. Boy did I nail that board right in the middle and you know what I mean. Well yes and no. Duck’s favorite Flippin’ Carl only bettered himself by 5 spots, but like I told Duck, at that track 5 is better than nothin’. He seemed to know what I mean, somewhat at least.
After Saturday’s event I just knew Sunday was gonna be a 2 crate race, so, early Sunday mornin’ I took the flower pots off the front porch crate and brought it in. I loaded the crates up with some, but not all, healthier snacks like Wheat Thins, home made bread and butter cucumbers, cold buttermilk, popcorn, of course, and some of that strange but tasty string cheese which I will never do again cause duck can’t pull it apart and that kept me busy until we ate it all. He doesn’t have hands, which I didn’t think about, obviously. Anyway we settled in and oh the excitement at some points almost overcame me. Mercy! And the hoopin’ and hollerin’ was deafenin’, I can tell ya that much right now. 500 laps of pure yellin’ and quackin’! Just doesn’t get any better folks!
Of course there was the beatin’, bangin’, destructin’ and drivers makin’ spots in the field where there weren’t any! I remember bein’ so excited that that cutie Bobby LaBonte was racin’ his heart out and for a spell there he was in the top 10. I was so proud of him. Course Martinsville dealt him a few different blows, but, Granny was proud of him. Know what I mean? I just don’t know what to say about that race that y’all haven’t read or said yourself. 3 of the Hendrick guys wound up in the top 10 though and Same Champ Jimmy came in 12th. Amazin’ stuff from them all right there! Those last 10 laps Duck and I were smackin’ each other in the head all over the place. When JR took the lead that even made Duck happy! Why we were off of the divan so much the livin’ room floorboards were creakin’. But with 2 laps to go, Happy Harvick did what he had to do and took the lead. I am still shiverin’ when I think about the finish. I was so proud of JR. I wondered about his crew chief’s call for those 2 tire stops, but, he knew what he was doin’, obviously. Kevin won. Good for him I say! JR was 2nd and GOOD for him I say. I am predictin’ a win soon, mark this granny’s words. Rowdy came in 3rd, Juan-toya was 4th and sweet Jeff rounded out the top 5. Good for all of them, I say!
Kevin was proud, JR was proud of his team and calmly talkative. Rowdy was disappointed, calm and nice. He does want one of those grandfather clocks, though, and you mark this granny’s words, that boy will get one eventually.
Now for the other stuff. That sure was a “hot” wreck, no pun intended, there that cuties Kahne and Truex had, Oh my good and gracious Lord that nearly scared this granny right out of her socks. They did walk away, amazin’ly. Sad and good for them, I say!
And did y’all notice that the SPEED Channel position thingie across the top of the screen was all screwed up? It had this Granny’s head spinnin’, I can tell ya that much right now. Kept showin’ pert near everyone a lap down. They finally just left the position part goin’ for a spell and eventually got the rest of it right. I think those technical guys need to check that stuff out before each race. Know what I mean? I’m not grumpin’ on them, I’m just sayin’.
And for those of you who may have wondered, Duck did have some post Cup race, Flippin Carl issues. This Granny has come to understand that idol recovery is and will be a longer process than initially expected. I have tried to shield Duck from this information, but I suspect the commercial callin’ for another AFLAC duck voice may be partly responsible, if in fact he snuck some commercial peeks when I was busy with somethin’ or another. I remain optimistic, however, and while I understand this is neither here nor there, I’m just hopin’ and sayin’.
So now what does cousin Grouch have to say?
Greetin’s there young’uns and other folks too ! ! ! I’ve been busier than a bee that’s been flittin’ around in my bonnet and don’t have much time this mornin’ to get my report off to ya – – – so listen up, ya hear??? I’m a very busy woman after all. Well, did we git enough of them there commercials on Saturday, do ya think? If’n it weren’t for commercials it was fer cautions and pit stops. Do ya think they could show us at least some of the racin’ too? Cousin Grouch was gittin’ a tad bit grouchy, for heaven sakes! I had to laugh at Austin Dillon though, runnin’ his mouth about what “Rowdy” Busch better not do around him, like he’s a tough feller or somethin’ I was actually laughin’ out loud at all his nonsense talkin’, “Rowdy” has more wins than he may ever have. And I don’t even care who his granddaddy is!
What about that feller, Ricky Carmichael? Leadin’ laps – – – what a surprise that was- – -he started 20th and finished 8th, not bad for the new feller on the scene! But I s’pose the biggest thing that got my attention was Michael Waltrip up there in the broadcastin’ booth runnin’ his mouth about Mr. Harvick loosing 2 or 3 laps and bein’ “out of the race”. What was he talkin’ about, does anyone know for sure cause by the end of the race Harvick had not only made up all his lost laps but was running in the Top 5 (fourth to be exact!). Now don’t go gittin’ the wrong idea here, I really like that “tall drink of water from Kentucky” and I’ve been a fan of his for as long as I can remember but I guess he forgot that the race was far from over when “Happy” got into that there bad situation and he had plenty of time to work his way out of it! Right, Michael? Speakin’ of which Mr. Harvick decided to seal the deal by winnin’ the Cup race on Sunday. I reckon he did that just for Mikey, don’t you? hehehe Anyway, that was a serious wreck between Martin Truex and Kasey Kahne. I’m just glad that them fellers didn’t get any serious injuries, the good Lord took care of that, I’d say! I have to say that I thought it was a class act for Truex to run over and make sure Kahne was okay- – – now that there was a sure sign of what ya call sportsmanship, young’uns! Finally, I have to give a shout out to Dale Jr. and Steve Letarte. They started the race in the 26th position and durn near won the race, at least I was whoopin’ and a hollerin’ that he would, but I guess I cain’t always have my way! I think they are so close now to winnin’ that I can smell the victory! Oh yeah, Boys, you all listen to Cousin Grouch now ya hear? I’ll be waitin’ when ya’s get to Victory Lane!
That’s all I have for this week. However, I do need to ask Granny Grump how things was at her house this week, what with Duck havin’ that there laryngitis an’ all. I imagine it was purdy quiet at your place, huh, Granny? I sure wish Bubba had that there stuff – – – least-wise he’d get the chores done without givin’ me no lip ! ! ! hehehe See y’all next week after the racin’ at Texas Motor Speedway. Have a great week everybody! Cousin Grouch
