Just 10 races into their inaugural 2021 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series season together, Timothy Peters and Rackley W.A.R. have amicably agreed to part ways.
The Nashville, Tenn.-based team co-owned by Willie Allen and Curtis Sutton said they reached a mutual decision with Peters to end their relationship, effective June 1.
2021 had been planned for Peters’ return to a championship full-time effort in the Truck Series since 2016 at Red Horse Racing.
“We appreciate the foundation that Timothy Peters has brought Rackley W.A.R.,” team co-owner Allen said in a statement. “We wish Timothy the best in his future racing endeavors. As a team, we remain focused on the remainder of the season.”
Peters, 40, scored a season-best finish of 16th in the third race of the season at Las Vegas (Nev.) Motor Speedway in March. Overall, the team has just two top-20s, earning a 19th also at Darlington (S.C.) Raceway.
This past weekend at Charlotte, the team’s sour start to the year continued after losing their primary truck to a crash in practice. In the race, Peters only completed 13 of the event’s 134 laps after battling steering issues in their backup No. 25 Rackley Roofing Chevrolet Silverado.
Charlotte was the team’s second DNF (did not finish) of the season, but their average finish approaching the halfway point of the year dipped to 25.8.
The team also announced Monday that Martinsville Xfinity Series winner Josh Berry will drive for the Chad Kendrick-led team in the next three NCWTS races respectively at Texas Motor Speedway, Nashville (Tenn.) Superspeedway and Pocono (Pa.) Raceway respectively.
Berry, a native of Hendersonville, Tenn. made his second NCWTS start of his career earlier this season at Atlanta (Ga.) Motor Speedway for fellow Chevrolet team Young’s Motorsports pinch-hitting for rookie driver Kris Wright who contracted the coronavirus.
The 30-year-old Berry has spent a majority of 2021 competing in the NASCAR Xfinity Series for JR Motorsports – but will join Jordan Anderson Racing for this week’s Xfinity race at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.
At Texas, Berry will return to JRM in his penultimate scheduled race of 2021 at the wheel of the No. 8 Chevrolet after his Rackley W.A.R. debut Truck Series in the Speedy Cash 200 on Sat., Jun. 12, 2021.
A driver for Rackley W.A.R. beyond Pocono has not been announced.
