DOVER, Del. – In the wake of Talladega Superspeedway NASCAR Xfinity Series winner Spencer Gallagher being indefinitely suspended by NASCAR after violating the sanctioning body’s substance abuse policy earlier this week, Brennan Poole has been tapped by GMS Racing to test for the organization Monday at Charlotte (N.C.) Motor Speedway.
GMS Racing president Mike Beam made the announcement during the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series post-race press conference after their driver Johnny Sauter won his second race of the season in the JEGS 200.
Poole, however, doesn’t have any guarantees he’ll pilot the No. 23 Allegiant Chevrolet in the May 26 race in Concord, N.C. as Beam said nothing has been finalized past the test.
“We have talked to a lot of people,” offered Beam. “We are going to take it one race at a time. I feel like by Monday, Tuesday (May 8), we should know.”
Poole has been on the sidelines since his sponsor DC Solar increased their involvement with Chip Ganassi Racing to include the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series this season.
Their expansion which now includes a relationship with driver Kyle Larson and sponsorship in both Cup and Xfinity on the team’s No. 42 Chevrolet left The Woodlands, Texas native jobless just before the start of the 2018 season.
In 83 Xfinity races over three seasons, the 27-year-old Poole has eight top-five and 36 top-10 finishes, including a career-best second place finish at Kentucky Speedway last September.
In five starts at Charlotte, the six-time ARCA Racing Series winner has tallied one top-five and three top-10 finishes, including a track best fifth in October, his last Xfinity top-five performance.
