KANSAS CITY, KS.: One would have to wonder if Brett Moffitt declared Xfinity Series national points at the beginning of the 2021 NASCAR Xfinity Series – would he be chasing a second NASCAR national championship and first for Our Motorsports?
We’ll never know the answer to that question as Moffit declared points in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series to start the year and later shifted his entire focus to the Statesville, N.C.-based team
But throughout the season, 29 starts in all – sidelined for two races this fall at Darlington Raceway and Richmond Raceway for medical reasons – the Grimes, Iowa native has continued to deliver for car owner Chris Our punching out strong finishes, including a sixth-place finish in Saturday afternoon’s Kansas Lottery 300 at Kansas Speedway.
The 1.5-mile speedway often referenced with a Wizard of Oz nod has been one of Moffit’s stronger tracks throughout his career and he showcased it during the 200-laps aboard his No. 02 Concrete Supply Chevrolet led by crew chief Pat Tryson.
A strong race car wheeled by a determined driver propelled the young Xfinity Series operation to their ninth top-10 finish this year.
After the race, Moffit was satisfied.
It was just a good day all around I love racing in the Midwest close to home and Kansas is one of my favorite tracks,” Moffitt told CATCHFENCE.com.
With not many trips to the Midwest, Moffitt knows it’s important to take advantage of opportunities to do so, especially at tracks like Kansas Speedway. Moffitt recorded his 17th career top-10 finish on Saturday in front of a huge support system.
“We had a lot of sponsors, friends, and family at the track today so to put on a good performance was huge and will hopefully carry into the future,” added Moffitt.
With two races remaining this season at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway and Phoenix (Ariz.) Raceway, both have proven to be solid race tracks for the father-to-be.
Still searching for his first career Xfinity Series victory, Moffitt knows that everything would have to align perfectly to thrust Our Motorsports from contenders to winners over the next two weeks, but if opportunity knocks, Moffitt is ready to answer in a big way.
“(At) Martinsville we have been decent, so I feel good about it,” added Moffitt. “Phoenix we have struggled pretty bad in the past, but we are building a brand new car for it so, hopefully, that will turn things around.”
In his two Martinsville starts for Our, Moffitt has finished 13th and 12th respectably.
