Hello loyal readers and other folks. Well another race weekend has come and gone. We were treated to a two race weekend at Bristol this week and boy howdy Rowdy was the lightnin’ fast racin’ rascal to beat again. I believe that boy could fall in stinky stuff and come out smellin’ like a pie in the oven, if ya know what I mean. He just works magic in a good race car, doesn’t he? That boy basically dominated the whole weekend. He truly did.
Saturday was the Nationwide event. It was a mild race by Bristol standards to my way of thinkin’. 3 cars wound up out of the race because of accidents. That’s what I mean by mild. Miss pretty as they come Danica was one of ’em. On lap 245, I think it was, she got in to it with Ryan Truex. She said he runs hard everytime she’s around him. Well, Danica darlin’ he’s suppose to. That’s racin’ and now you know what racin’ at Bristol is. It’s not overkill, honey. And keep in mind he is still learnin’ like you are. He’s a rookie and you aren’t listed as such but you are still learnin’ just the same. Looked to me like you were movin’ up and he got loose. Course I could be wrong, but I’m just sayin’. Anyway Kyle won and set some amazin’ records. Good for him I say! Only 11 cars finished on the lead lap which is not so amazin’ if ya know what I mean. Kasey Kahne, JR, Elliott Sadler and Joey Logano were the rest of the top 5 in that particular order. Good for all of them, I say!
And thank our good and gracious LORD flippin’ Carl was racin’. Made my viewin’ a lot more enjoyable because Duck was happy, let me tell you that much right now. Carl finished a right respectable 7th. Course Duck pouted some cause Carl didn’t win, but, durin’ our prerace discussion I told, I mean warned him that he needed to get back to his real racefan duck self. He was tryin’. I truly believe he was. But this will be a work in progress, let me tell ya that much right now..
Sunday, as pretty much most but not always, was the Cup race. This was another mild one for Bristol standards accident wise, if ya know what I mean, with only one driver out of the race because of a wreck. That was probation stricken Robby Gordon. Poor fella only finished 127 of the 500 laps. I felt for him. I really did, but as I said earlier, that’s what racin’ at Bristol is known for. Anyway this was yet another ample example of Rowdy’s racin’ expertise where he dominated the field, yet again. I’m tellin’ ya that boy is as hot as a pistol shootin’ uphill! He and Jimmy were workin’ it hard for a spell. In the end Kyle won again. Another good for him I say! And this time flippin’ Carl finished second. That gave Duck more of a smile, I can tell ya that much right now. I was relieved. I’m not worryin’ as much about this Duck/flippin’ Carl situation at this particular point, I’m just sayin’. Anyway Jimmy, Matt and Paul rounded out the top 5. JR came in at a very respectable 11th. I was hopin’ for a top 10 for him, but, 11th is good and it sure seems like this Hendrick stable crew chief except for Johnson shake up situation is workin’. Just may be that fact of beauty I have stated previously since Sweet Mark finished 12th and cutie Jeffie wound up 14th.
Anyway, the important thing right here is that no one was hurt and next week they head to California for their only NASCAR race event this year. Cora(belle), my wayward niece, tells me it is supposed to rain all weekend. I guess we will see what we will see, or not(on time) as the case may be. This weather is getting’ crazy everywhere. Know what I mean?
Now for the other stuff. Wasn’t it wonderful to see that cute as can be Bobby LaBonte in his Petty machine finish 13th? Why I am as happy as this granny can be for that boy and for his cowboy hatted, wide smilin’ owner. I thought for a spell there he would get another top 10, but sadly it wasn’t meant to be, I guess. Anyway good for him and the team, I say! I am just hopin’ for much, much more for that group. That is just quality, deservin’ people right there. Know what I mean?.
Another point of possible interest to y’all is the fact that I have kept the news of a certain actor bein’ fired as the voice of a certain celebrity duck with ties to a certain flippin’ driver. I’m tryin’ not to use names in hopes of somehow protectin’ another duck who is near and dear, most times, to my heart. Look, Duck is in a potential racefan recovery and possible fragile state right now. I have warned him in the past about you know who and what I suspect, and while this granny does love a good “I told you so” any chance I get, this is neither the place or time for image shatterin’. Know what I mean? I am sure you know who is a perfectly nice and sweet duck. I am not implyin’ otherwise. I’m just sayin’.
And one final thing I want to mention is Jennifer Jo Cobb. Now not only is that girl a pretty as a picture one somethin’, but that girl has got guts while huntin’ glory. She walked away from her car and owner after she was told, just 10 minutes before the start of Saturday’s race, that she would start and park or be black flagged by NASCAR at her owner’s request. Well GOOD for this pretty, and you know I have to say it, zipped up racer, I say!. She said she is there to race to the best of her abilities and nothin’ else will do. Ya know, if ya don’t stand for somethin’ then I say shut up and go home when someone else does. Know what I mean? Now this granny understands that sometimes a start and park situation is necessary for some teams to survive, so I’m not pickin’ on anyone who has to do that. I’m just sayin’ a lesser man or woman racer may have sucked it up and done her bosses biddin’. Amazin’ racer there this Jennifer girl! Here’s another GOOD for you, I say.
I’m out of time again, so what does Cousin Grouch have to say about Bristol?
Grouch writes:
Howdy there young’uns and other folks! Whew, What a busy weekend. “Bubba” and I celebrated our Weddin’ anniversary, I won’t tell ya how many years this makes cause you probably can’t count that high and we’re both still among the livin’, besides. Trouble is, I ain’t even got no time off for good behavin’, like them there prisoners do. But as Granny would say, “That’s neither here nor there”.
Well, what did y’all think of all the tire troubles this weekend? Ya know I just can’t imagine what all the fuss was about, all of a sudden, I mean didn’t we race there last year with no problems or am I forgettin’ something here? But I have to say, for once, them NASCAR fellers got busy and tried to solve the problem without too much hemmin’ and hawin’ like they usually do. Good for them I say! Course I know they didn’t want to hear the outrage from the fans, neither! Have mercy !
I’m thinkin’ I have more questions then answers this weekend. Seein’ as how I don’t understand all the goin’s on between Jennifer Jo Cobb and 2nd Chance Racin’. What was that all about, out of the clear blue sky, no less? Course the “conspiracy theorist” in me can’t help but wonder if that was a charade about women folk in racin’, since this just happened to be Danica the “Drama Queen’s” last race, until June. Ya s’pose there’s some jealousy there since Danica has been runnin’ pretty good of late? I’m wonderin’ if this might be a one-sided cat fight. Hmmmm??? There was certainly no shortage of feudin’ neither. We had sweet little Ryan Truex and Danica a wreckin, I guess she didn’t take too kindly to his little “tap” on her bumper. I guess she was expectin’ him to pull over and let her through his line. I think someone needs to inform her that it don’t work like that, especially at Bristol! Maybe she just didn’t see that he has a yellow stripe across his bumper too, indicatin’ that he’s a rookie as well. Hmmm??? And what about “Happy” Harvick, not bein’ so happy, when the “Go Daddy Dude” tapped him a couple a times to get him out of his way? Or maybe he thought the old boy needed eyeglasses to see where he was goin’, who really knows what Harvick was thinkin’? Bottom line, Happy wasn’t so happy but someone shoulda reminded him he was at Bristol, Baby! That there’s what I was a thinkin’.
I need to give a shout out to Ryan Newman for his Top10 finish at Bristol and for bein’ tied for third place with his “Boss man”, Tony “Smoke” Stewart in the Points Standin’s. Way To Go, Stewart-Haas Racing!
Finally, what can ya say about Kyle “Rowdy” Busch that ain’t already been said? That young feller sure can drive a race car, can’t he? And he’s a pretty good “Sweeper”, to boot! I’m thinkin’ he just might sweep up all the way across this country before he’s done, I can tell you that much for sure, at the rate he’s a goin’ so far. Why, I’d even be beholden to him if he could grab that trophy away from “Five-Time” this season. Too much of a good thing ain’t good in my book, just sayin’.
Granny, you got any more pearls of wisdom to share with these nice folks before we go? I’ll see y’all next week after the Fontana race at Auto Club Speedway! Have a great week everybody!

Grouch, honey, you are right again with your writin’s! Oh and Happy Anniversary to you and Bubba. My late husband Elmer always like Bubba, but that was a long time ago. He used to tell the story about nailin’ Bubba in the outhouse. Remember that one? Oh Elmer was a case, let me tell ya that much right now, but, that’s neither here nor there. I should have made mention of Tony and Ryan bein’ tied in the points and all, too, what with the announcers sayin’ people had been a bit negative in the beginnin’ about Smoke startin’ his own team and all. That’s one somethin’ that got away from me what with the Duck drama and all, but those two need a granny “good and good for them, I say. So good and good, I say to them! As for Happy not bein’ happy, well, that’s the way Bristol goes…shoulda, woulda, coulda. Know what I mean?
By the way, Cora(belle) said hello to her favorite Aunt. Huh, if you’re her favorite auntie I wonder why you didn’t go out there and deal with her young uns? Huh? Not upset or nothin’, I’m just sayin or, in this case askin’.
So there you have it loyal readers and other folks, the grannies’ take on Bristol and the happenin’s. Email, comment or don’t. It’s ok either way cause we’re very busy women.
‘Til next time Grump and Grouch over and out!
