LAS VEGAS, Nev: NASCAR CRAFTSMAN® Truck Series regular Daniel Dye is on standby to replace Joey Gase if needed in Saturday afternoon’s The LiUNA NASCAR Xfinity Series Race at Las Vegas (Nev.) Motor Speedway.
On Saturday morning, Joey Gase Motorsports contacted Dye about potentially replacing Gase as the driver of the No. 35 Joey Gase Motorsports Ford Mustang as Gase is under the weather.
A spokesperson confirmed to CATCHFENCE.com that Gase will take the green flag for Saturday afternoon’s race, but if he feels the need to climb out, Dye will be in the team’s pit box, ready to
take over the driving duties.
Gase will start 38th.
Dye competed in Friday night’s Victoria’s Voice 200 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway and finished 24th after making an unscheduled pit stop late in the race for fuel while running ninth.
“We had some good speed in our NAPA Nightvision Chevrolet,” said Dye of Friday night’s race. “We ran inside the top-15 for a lot of the night and (crew chief) Blake (Bainbridge) made a good call on that green flag stop.
“Unfortunately, we had to make a late stop for fuel and that kept us from getting another good finish. I’m proud of this team. We’re making gains and looking forward to improving at Bristol in a couple weeks.”
Dye, a native of Deland, Fla., has three prior Xfinity Series starts to his credit, with a career-best 17th place finish at Texas Motor Speedway last fall.
Dye, 20, ran the 2024 Xfinity Series opener at Daytona in a fourth Kaulig Racing entry.
