KANSAS CITY, Kan. – Roush Fenway Racing announced Friday morning that the organization will field three entries this summer at Road America (Wisc.) with IndyCar driver Conor Daly driving the team’s No. 6 Lilly Diabetes Ford Mustang in the Aug. 25 race.
Daly and Roush Fenway made the announcement at Indianapolis Motor Speedway Friday morning where Daly is participating in this year’s Indianapolis 500. Daly was joined alongside Ryan Reed, who competes full-time for Roush Fenway aboard the No. 16 Lilly Diabetes Drive Down A1C Ford Mustang.
“I’m very excited for this opportunity to be partnered again with Lilly Diabetes and to be able to drive a Jack Roush Ford,” said Daly. “I’ve raced at Road America almost every year since I was 16 and have won there. I have driven almost every form of car, but this will be my first stock car experience.
“I’ve been an avid follower of NASCAR and have been friends with Ryan for a long time and been to many races to support him.”
Indianapolis-based Lilly Diabetes will enhance their Motorsports program for Road America as they will support all three of Roush Fenway Racing’s Xfinity Series entries. Midwest standout Ty
Majeski will drive the team’s third entry, the No. 60 Lilly Diabetes Ford.
Daly, like Reed, has never let diabetes hold him back from achieving his dreams. Daly was diagnosed when he was 14 years old and took on the diagnosis like a challenge, working his way to the top. Daly will compete in the May 27 Indianapolis 500 with Lilly support and with his fellow Type 1 Road America teammate Ryan Reed at-track supporting him.
Daly will be the first and only person with type 1 diabetes to race in both NASCAR and IndyCar in the same year.
In 39 IndyCar starts, the Noblesville, Ind. native has a career-best finish of second in 2016 on the Raceway at Belle Isle in Detroit, Mich. driving for Dale Coyne Racing.
