SPARTA, Ky: JR Motorsports driver Justin Allgaier was transported to a local Kentucky hospital after the driver of the No. 7 Brandt Chevrolet Camaro was involved in a last lap crash of Thursday night’s Shady Rays 200.
While contending for a top-10 finish, Allgaier appeared to lose control of his car on the backstretch in NASCAR overtime at Kentucky while battling Ronnie Bassett Jr.
Sitting fourth on the restart with two laps to go, contact between teammate Noah Gragson and Allgaier sent the Riverton, Ill. native plummeting through the field.
As the cars roared on the backstretch heading to the checkered flag, Allgaier trying to salvage a top-10 finish broke loose underneath Bassett where the two connected and sent Allgaier into the outside wall, while Bassett made hard contact with the inside wall.
Timmy Hill and Kody Vanderwal were also collected.
Allgaier was able to drop the window net at the scene of the accident indicating he was OK to the safety team, but upon examination from the infield care center, the 11-time Xfinity Series winner was transported to a local hospital for further evaluation.
As of 2:00 a.m., Fri., July 10, 2020, Allgaier’s condition was unknown.
Allgaier’s wife Ashley, a respected member of the NASCAR garage pleaded on social media for race fans not to buy into the rumors circulating about her husband’s condition.
I cannot believe I have to say this … but there are rumors & untrue tweets going around about what @j_allgaier is being evaluated for. If it didn’t come from the JRM camp or myself or a creditable source, do NOT believe it. People are unbelievably disgusting to start rumors.

This season has been frustrating for the Xfinity mainstay driver. After 14 races, Allgaier has just two top-five and six top-10 finishes and sits sixth in the championship standings.
A best finish of third at Darlington (S.C.) Raceway in May has helped keep Allgaier’s average finish of 15th approaching the halfway point of the 2020 Xfinity Series season.
Bassett and Hill were evaluated and released from the infield care center.
