Kyle Busch, the leading all-time winner in the NASCAR XFINITY Series was injured in a late-race crash Saturday afternoon in the Alert Today Florida 300 at Daytona International Speedway.
Busch was attempting to shove fellow Toyota teammate Erik Jones towards the race lead inside the final 10 circuits of the race when Jones lost control of his car, igniting the second “Big One” at the “World Center of Racing.”
Busch slid across the grass on the frontstretch and slammed hard into the inside wall. Busch gingerly climbed from his car and immediate signaled for assistance from safety and medical personnel. Busch was placed on a stretch and his right leg stabilized.
It appears the location that Busch’s No. 54 Monster Energy Toyota Camry impacted was concrete and not padded by the SAFER barrier.
NASCAR informed members of the media that Busch was transported to Halifax Medical Center, a local hospital for further evaluation at 6:23 p.m.
The incident brought out the third caution flag of the night and involved 10 cars. In addition to Busch, Cale Conley, Brendan Gaughan, Jeffrey Earnhardt, Chase Elliott, Jones, Eliott Sadler, Brian Scott, Darrell Wallace Jr. and J.J. Yeley.
The field was red flagged for the second time in the race for 10 minutes, 54 seconds.
