After failing to qualify for her first two NASCAR Nationwide Series races at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway and last weekend at Dover (Del.) International Speedway, Milka Duno successful qualified 34th Saturday morning at Kansas Speedway for her NASCAR debut.
Unfortunately, her debut was short-lived after crashing in Turn 2 on Lap 2 of the Kansas Lottery 300.
While running 31st, Duno’s No. 29 CanTV Toyota Camry broke loose from the high groove and pounded the wall, causing extensive rear-end damage. The Caracas, Venezuela native took her RAB Racing with Brack Maggard entry straight to the garage.
The damage was deemed terminal for the former ARCA Racing Series driver and she finished shotgun on the field in 40th. By taking the green flag, however, Duno became the first Hispanic female driver to start a race in NASCAR’s three national divisions.
Duno’s next scheduled NASCAR Nationwide Series attempt is the season finale at Homestead-Miami (Fla.) Speedway on November 15.
