“I’m thrilled to officially join the iHeart Women’s Sports roster for 2025 with my first-ever podcast,’” said Legge. “With the help of my partners at e.l.f. Beauty, iHeartMedia is investing in and setting the standard for women’s sports coverage and I’m honored to be part of that. It will also be really cool to have my iHeart podcast’s branding on my midget race car at the Chili Bowl Nationals!”
Legge’s first episode will drop today, Tues., Jan. 7, 2025, with subsequent episodes dropping weekly on Tuesday throughout 2025. In Ep01, Legge speaks with Brent Cox, owner and founder of Abacus Racing about what she should expect racing on dirt for the first time at the upcoming Chili Bowl, and he shares how he transitioned from being an accountant to a team owner.
With the old adage that motorsports is the only sport where men and women can compete on an equal playing field, Legge sits at the very top in motorsports as the ONLY FEMALE driver in the big three: NTT INDYCAR Series, the NASCAR Cup Series, or Formula One. She became the first woman to win a major open-wheel race in North America in 2005, when she claimed victory in the ‘triple-a’ Atlantic Championship developmental series. Legge turned pro in 2006 and competed in the Champ Car World Series (now INDYCAR) in both 2006 & 2007, where she became the first woman to lead laps in the Series when she took the lead at the Milwaukee Mile and went on to secure her best finish in the Series with sixth place.
She became just the ninth woman to qualify for the Indianapolis 500 in 2012, and qualified for the race again in 2013, and for the 2023 Indy 500, she set the fastest one-lap (231.627 mph) and four-lap (231.070 mph) qualification speeds for a woman in the history of the storied event.
In 2024, she qualified a fourth time for the Indy 500 and championed a one-of-a-kind partnership with e.l.f. Cosmetics, who became the first-ever beauty brand to serve as a primary sponsor of an entry in the 108-year history of the event, for which the effort won two prestigious Clio Sports Advertising Awards. Later in 2024, she finished just three seconds off the front wheel drive record in the 102nd running of The Pikes Peak International Hill Climb as a rookie in the Acura Integra Type S DE5, reaching the 14,115-foot summit with a time of 10:51.359.
Later this month, she will add another machine to her list of cars in which she has competed in when she drives a midget car in the 2025 Chili Bowl Nationals for her first race on dirt. The prestigious annual indoor race starts Jan. 12, with the feature race set for Jan. 18 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
“Throttle Therapy with Katherine Legge” is distributed by iHeartPodcasts and is available now on the iHeartRadio app and everywhere podcasts are heard.
