Richard Childress Racing has added Anthony Alfredo to its 2020 NASCAR Xfinity Series lineup driving the No. 21 Chevrolet Camaro.
Next season, Alfredo will split the car with already previously announced driver Myatt Snider. Alfredo is an alumnus of the 2018 NASCAR Next Class and graduates to the Xfinity Series after a stint in the NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series this season.
“It’s an honor to have the opportunity to compete in the Xfinity Series for Richard Childress Racing in 2020,” said Alfredo.
“It’s every racer’s dream to drive for such an iconic organization like RCR. I’m very thankful for everyone that has helped put this together, including my family, friends, and our partners. This is a career-making opportunity for me, and I plan to take full advantage of it.”
The number of Xfinity races Alfredo will drive was not announced.
A native of Ridgefield, Conn., Alfredo ran 13 races in the Truck Series as a rookie with DGR Crosley, earning two top-10 finishes. He earned a career-best eighth at Charlotte (N.C.) Motor Speedway in May.
Before his advancement to the NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series, he spent time in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East (2018) with MDM Racing where he finished fifth in points and scored his first career K&N victory at South Boston (Va.) Speedway.
Alfredo’s name burst onto the NASCAR scene when in 2017, he signed with JR Motorsports to drive for Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s Late Model team. He won two races in the CARS Late Model Stock Tour and finished runner-up in the championship to his JRM teammate Josh Berry.
While RCR has not announced a full-time driver campaign next year to defend its Xfinity Series championship earned this year with Tyler Reddick, team owner Richard Childress believes the 20-year-old will fit nicely into the organization’s driver development program.
“I’ve watched Anthony drive in the Truck Series this past season and I’m certain he’ll do well in our Xfinity Series cars,” offered Childress.
“RCR has had a lot of success over the years producing young, talented drivers through our development program. I believe that Anthony will fit right into that same mold.”
Snider with sponsorship from TaxSlayer is scheduled to open the 2020 NASCAR Xfinity Series season aboard the No. 21 Chevrolet Camaro at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway on Sat., Feb. 15, 2020.
