Hello loyal readers and other folks. Hope your weekend went well and you enjoyed the races at Richmond. I’ll tell ya one somethin’ right now, this was one I need to jot down in my “Really?” notebook along side the story about the RCR Nationwide fenders, but more on that later.
So this here was another one of those switched up race schedule weekends. The Trucks were off so the Nationwide Series ran on Friday and the Cup Series ran Saturday. I don’t know what everybody else was doin’ on Sunday but Duck and I cleaned the hen house, fried up some squash and corn bread, ate too much and got caught up on some other chores.
Anyway Duck and I were excited about the races at Richmond. We like that place sure enough. The action can be great and the results can be unexpected and real great too, so we settled in to watch Happy Man lead Denny Boy, WOG, that Whitt Boy and Kutie Kahne at the green. For those who want to know That Girl started 16th, Another Girl Johana started 24th, Curly Sadler started 7th and that drive pert near any stuff anywhere young Travis Pastrana made his debut in the Nationwide Series startin’ in 24th. I have trouble rememberin’ that boy’s last name for some reason. I just try to remember my favorite in town long like sandwich, a Pastrami, and it helps me remember his name, which is nether here nor there I know, I’m just sayin’. Anyway the rest you can look up.
So with Chili Cheese Fritos and ice tea on the crates we cheered and quacked as the green flag flew. Denny Boy got credit for leadin’ the first lap but Happy got the rest of the lead credits ’til the 1st caution for debris on lap 24. Course he got the lead back on the green and just kept leadin’. Mercy sakes alive Happy was surely the car to beat at that point. Even after poor J.J. hit the wall when he blew a tire and the 2nd caution came out, Happy resumed the lead but seemed like out of nowhere Big Brother Busch just passed Happy right up. Why Duck and I were shocked let me tell ya that one somethin’ right now but it was a short lived happenin’ cause Happy took it back 2 laps later but on lap 166 BBB took the lead again! Good for him I say! Course I can’t do a lap by lap here but Denny Boy was in 2nd place with 10 laps to go and wantin’ to be the one celebratin’ but it just wasn’t meant to be. Nossirree. So good for Big Brother Busch who won makin’ it the 1st win for Rowdy Boy’s new team. Why I do believe that is the 1st time I’ve seen those brothers hug in Victory Lane or anywhere else for that matter and it was a heartwarmin’ site, let me tell ya that one somethin’ right now. For those who want to know Denny Boy finished 2nd followed by Happy Man, Stenhouse Jr and Sammy H. For those who want to know even more Curly Sadler finished 6th, WOG finished 9th and that drive any stuff guy finished 2 laps down in the 25th spot which Duck and I think is fairly amazin’ . But then Duck and I think that boy is fairly amazin’ anyway what with all his injuries and all that boy has done, but that’s neither here nor there. Anyway the rest you can look up.
Duck and I took a nap, then drove in to town. After that race why we hadourselves a big ol’ cravin’ for one of those long hot Pastrami sandwiches. Course when I ordered it I confusin’ly said, “Let us have one of those big ol’ Pastrana’s. They said, “Say what?” So I told ’em they knew what I meant. Good grief! Anyway we shared and purely enjoyed it. Yessirree we did then we headed home for some much needed rest before the next day’s events.
Sunday’s race was gonna be a good one under the lights at Richmond. We ate a late dinner so with nothin’ on the crates we cheered and quacked as the green flag waved for Cutie Markie, Flippin’ Carl, Happy Man, Dinger and Rowdy Boy. For those who want to know JR started 10th, Smoke started 22nd, Not Same Champ Jimmie started 27th, Jeffie started 6th and the rest you can look up.
Course Duck had high hopes for his idol Flippin’ Carl but I gave him some warnin’s about his obsessive post race in the past behavior just in case. Anyway this was gonna be another good one. Yessirree it was and a 400 lapper to boot. Heck fire we didn’t know what to expect. Could BBB pull off another win? Who knew cause that boy started 13th ya know. And with Duck’s idol up front and needin’ a win that was another possibility. Course the announcers were all sayin’ one someone or another. Even JR’s name was thrown out there and I was and always will pull for that boy, but back to the results.
Flippin’ Carl was amazin’ to tell ya the truth and Duck was as happy as pigs in stink. And it looked like for quite a spell that Duck and Flippin’ Carl would have their way and see Carl in the winner’s circle. Why that boy lead 206 laps but on a restart on lap 319 Carl apparently jumped the restart and was black flagged . Now this was and is a crazy one somethin’ let me tell ya that right now cause Flippin’ Carl’s name was listed in the number 1 spot on that tall scorin’ tower but NASCAR said the leader was Smoke who spun his tires on that restart and that’s how Carl got black flagged. My head is still reelin’ and I guess so are a whole lot of other somebodies’. So whatever I say. Tony came out on top of that one so good for him and so sad for Carl I say and whatever for NASCAR I say to my way of thinkin’. I would, Duck would and a whole lot of other somebodies just want to know who was leadin’ at that point…either way I guess they proved Flippin’ jumped but well nevermind and on with this here race report.
So Smoke was still hangin’ on to the lead and Rowdy Boy was in 2nd and JR was in 3rd. and on lap 386 there was a caution for debris. Oh my good and gracious LORD! This put Rowdy in the top spot followed by JR and Smoke with 9 left to go. Duck and I were practically beatin’ each other up carryin’ on but if Fleppin’ Carl couldn’t win Duck wanted JR and so by golly did I but that wasn’t meant to be neither. Rowdy won and good for him I say! And good for JR too. Yessirree he did a real fine job and almost made it. That’s all I’m gonna say about that. Smoke finished 3rd followed by Denny Boy and Kutie Kahne. The rest you can look up. Biff is still the points leader and JR is now back in the 2nd spot just 5 points behind Biff. Good for both of ’em I say and the rest of the points standin’s you can look up too.
Now for some other stuff. Seems like some folks are makin’ a big deal about JR sayin’ he is the best Hendrik’s driver. Now I never heard no such stuff but apprently some folks did and JR is bein’ called on some carpet or another for that and bein’ laughed at which Duck and I take great exception to I might add right here and now. Well listen here, y’all know what that boy means. He is in 2nd place in the points ahead of the other 3 Hendrick drivers so that is all he is talkin’ about and all those naysayers can just talk to my button up boots. Understand?
And is it possible that Chad Knaus was moonlightin’ at RCR recently? I’m just askin’ cause all those RCR Nationwide cars didn’t pass prerace inspection this past weekend at Richmond. Had somethin’ to do with “creative engineerin’ ” I heard tell. Now I’ve also heard that term used in the same sentence with Chad’s name a time or 2 or 3 or 4 or whatever which led me to this wonderin’. Curly Sadler said he has raced that car exactly like that before and never had any problems. Well Curly, sweet darlin’, you can cuss a cat a bunch of times and get away with it, too but that don’t make it right! Know what I mean, darlin’?
Next week the Truck Series is off and the Nationwide and Cup Series head to Talladega. Duck and I are sure looin’ forward to those races let me tell ya that one somethin’ right now. So there ya have it. Email, comment or don’t. I don’t care cause as y’all know I’m a very busy woman. Duck and Granny over and out.
