The phone rang a little following his NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) career-best finish of third at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway last month, but the conversations failed to materialize a new sponsor for RSS Racing driver Ryan Sieg.
Until now.
RSS Racing will announce during the Zippo 200 at Watkins Glen (N.Y.) International Saturday afternoon that Uncle Bob’s Self Storage will sponsor the team’s No. 39 Chevrolet Camaro next Saturday (August 16) at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in the Nationwide Children’s Hospital 200.
The team will officially make the announcement through their Twitter account, @RyanSiegRacing on Lap 39, the same as Sieg’s car number.
Owned and managed by Sovran Self Storage Inc., Uncle Bob’s Self Storage is the fifth-largest self-storage company in the United States. Founded in 1985, the company operates more than 470 self-storage facilities in 25 states and employs more than 1200 individuals.
“We are extremely excited to represent Uncle Bob’s next weekend at Mid-Ohio and hope to do more races with them in the future,” offered Sieg.
“Road course racing is a nice change of pace,” he added. “Even though I have limited laps at the road courses, it’s something I really enjoy trying to improve on. If we play our strategy right we could end up with a strong finish for our new partner Uncle Bob’s Self Storage.”
Sieg, despite limited backing has drawn attention to his family-owned team with solid finishes at some of NASCAR’s most demanding tracks. Furthermore, the ability to “do a lot with a little” has spawned interest and accolades for the 27-year old from the likes of NASCAR superstars Dale Earnhardt Jr., and Daytona winner Kasey Kahne along with Nationwide regular Elliott Sadler.
Entering Saturday’s Nationwide event, Sieg has just two top-10s, both occurring at the 2.5-mile superspeedway of Daytona. In the season-opener, the Tucker, Georgia native drafted from his 29th place starting position to finish ninth, then a career-best. Five weeks ago, he pushed Kahne to his first NNS win since 2007.
Through 20 races, Sieg has also has racked up 13 top-20 finishes, including an 18th place run at New Hampshire Motor Speedway as one of the Dash4Cash participants following his performance in the Subway Firecracker 250 on July 4. The No. 39 team was contending for a $100,000 bonus as part of the series’ sponsor yearly incentive program.
Oddly enough, the team led by crew chief Kevin “Cowboy” Starland intended on running the full NASCAR Camping World Truck Series schedule. However, the team’s surprisingly firm start to the Nationwide season initiated a change in direction, making their Nationwide championship bid official following round five at Auto Club (Calif.) Speedway.
Climbing from 34th in the standings since Auto Club, Sieg now stands 17th overall with 95 percent of the laps completed in 2014.
The Rod Sieg owned operation has also competed in two Truck Series races this season at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway and Dover (Del.) International Speedway respectively with a best of
11th in the season-opening NextEra Energy Resources 250 at Daytona.
Additionally, CATCHFENCE.com has learned that StationDigital will sponsor the No. 39 entry at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway on August 23 and the season-finale at Homestead-Miami (Fla.) Speedway in November.
